WHAT IS IT THAT MAKES US MATURE IN CHRIST
There are so many people who claim to be Christians today but who really don't know what they believe. For these people the standard answer is to love our enemy....LOVE, LOVE, LOVE and forgiveness, but we see very little fruit of change within most lives when it comes to those who are even closest to us. Most of us have never even learned to love ourselves let alone to be able to love and forgive others.
The question that comes to my mind is why do we find it so hard to implement even the most simple of things we are asked to do by Christ? I believe it is because we will not test God to find that His word is true for us. We will not read or meditate on what God is trying to say to us. For those who have just used God as a kind of crutch when they get in trouble you will rarely find that God even responds to you...and that is because there is no relationship between the two of you. Until people who call themselves by the name of Christ begin to seek after God by testing and proving His word for them in their life thy will find nothing but disappointment. Those are harsh words and yet deep in your heart you already know they are true words.
One of the things I had to do to become mature in Christ was to realize that I needed to participate in the relationship with God . That meant that I had to also take an initiative in how I sought God and His word for me. I had to take the time to let God speak to me in my own language and time so that His word was not wasted on me. Sometimes it meant that I had to take a verse that the Spirit had lead me to and not just read it over and over, but then pray and meditate on it until there was no doubt as to what God was saying; and sometimes I did not like what He was saying...but it never meant that I did not need to hear it.
Some times it is really is brokenness, and righteousness, and allowing ourselves to be humbled before God to begin our journey toward any kind of maturity in Christ. We have to get real with God to the point that our relationship with Him begins to effect our lives in this world. There is not any big change to your freedoms that is required, just a change of mind and heart toward God...a willingness to listen at first to a loving and stable voice that will never lead you wrong. It saddens me that some of us who call Christ our savior do not find someone in our life like that...it is because we have not let God be that for us. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
