WHO EXACTLY IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
The Spirit of God is calling me to do some focusing on exactly who He is for the Christian today. We hear a lot about the divine attributes of the Holy Spirit; these things are described in the personality and the nature of Jesus Christ as found in 1 Corinthians 2:11 -
1 Corinthians 12:11, and Romans 15:10. The Holy Spirit is described by Jesus as being the Comforter or helper in John 14:26 and 15:26 but there is so much more to the Spirit that just that.
In the scriptures, the Holy Spirit has several other names:
Spirit of God ...1 Corinthians 3:16
Spirit of Christ...Romans 8:9
Spirit of Life...Romans 8:2
Spirit of truth... John 16:13
Spirit of grace...Hebrews 10:29
Spirit of promise...Ephesians 1:13
We can see the effect of the Holy Spirit on us as God's children just from looking at these different terms used to name Him, but I think it is important for us to understand the reason for why the Holy Spirit came to us instead of Jesus staying with us. Once again if we turn to scriptures like John 16:13-14 we begin to find answers. Jesus was sent for a specific purpose, which was to glorify God as His own Holy sacrifice for our sin. The Holy Spirit then was sent to continue the ministry of Christ in this world through us. It makes sense then that the more we allow God's Holy Spirit to govern our lives and control who we are as people the more God can minister through the Holy Spirit to this world. God's Spirit does this in several ways. It all starts at the time of our birth into Christ, and it continues throughout our lives as a process of regeneration. The Holy Spirit actually lives within each Christian, and He seals us in the faith we have in Jesus Ephesians 1:13;-4:30.
It is the Holy Spirit within us that is the earnest guarantee of our inheritance in Jesus Christ, and it is the Holy Spirit that actually baptizes us into Christ 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27;
Romans 6:3-4. And finally, it is the Holy Spirit that fills every Christian for service to God. We have for a long time now tended to hide away from that service to Christ by denying the work and power of the Holy Spirit ever existing within us, and it is time for that to change. Most do not know what a Spirit-filled life looks like. perhaps we can help change that as we start to look at some of the things that will allow us to become mature Christians. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
