IF WE SAY THAT WE LOVE GOD #2

GREETING IN THE PRECIOUS NAME OF JESUS:

To God, our success is not found in our ability to always be successful at every point, but to be willing to continue to walk on.  For any new Christian failure is never an option but a guarantee. 1 John chapters 1 -5  contains information that gives us a glimpse of what our life in Christ should be aiming for. There is a repeated idea that is  brought forth in these scriptures that asks the same question.." IF WE SAY WE LOVE GOD" which makes us come back to the question about our truthfulness with ourselves and with God about how we are living our life?

I want to take this week to look at some of these things in hope that it will stir us to ask some deeper questions about ourselves. 1. " If we say we love God"  1John 1:7 If you walk in the light then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Christ cleanses all of our sins. If we really walk in the light is a question within a question because it indicates we have made a confession of faith, and yet the truth of that confession needs to be proven in our desire to fellowship with as many others as we can who have made that same confession. It tells us the fact that not only have we accepted the fact our sins have been forgiven and covered by the blood of Christ, but also th sins of those who have made that same confession.  In many ways, it is much easier for us to see the sins that we have committed wiped away than we can see the sins of others wiped away as well...especially if we are looking at them through a very strong microscope of denominal tradition.

 2. " If we say that we love God" 1 John 1:8 Again this question is asked in a big way when we read " If we say we have no sin we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.  This idea is carried through the teaching of once saved always saved, and yet God repeatedly tells us that our salvation once we accept Jesus is still dependent on 2 things A. Our continued relationship with Him,  B. The truthfulness of the intent of our heart.  There is no way that we can get around what Paul said about working out our salvation with fear and trembling. In almost every way we see the accountability of that puts the ball right back into our court.  It deals with our will to continue to seek and find God which will determine our relationship with Him  John emphasizes the truth that our original decision of faith in Christ is proven in our continued growth through the power of the Holy Spirit.  It is also directly linked to our honesty about why we worship God in the intent of our heart, and not just through lip service alone.  If we really want to grow in Jesus it will take commitment and work on our part as well as allowing God to do His will through our submission to His Spirit. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
