IF WE SAY THAT WE LOVE GOD #4

GREETINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS:

#5
" If we say that we love God"  continues to be the theme into the next of Johns writings as he turns our words into actions.

1 John 2:3 "And hereby we do know that know Him if we keep His commandments"  In verse 4 tells us that if we do not keep His commandments once again we are a liar, and the truth is not in us, but if we do, in verse 5 it tells us if God's word dwells  within us the love that dwells within that word will become perfected within us.  Perfected in this case means completed. Verse 6 says " He that saith that he abideth in Christ ought to also walk just as Christ walked".We learn to walk in Christ under a great number of different circumstances, but the consistent thing is that it must always be in truth.  We cannot have truth if we do not have a place to go to always find the truth and compare it to what we come up against in this life.  The circumstances will change and the situations will seem to us as though it may warrant changing the rules to meet the needs of the hour, but God never changes.

#6 "if we say that we love God" In verse 9 it reads " He that saith that he is in the light and still hates his brother is in the darkness even now"  There is much division in our country right now politically, but if we talk the talk we need to also walk the walk because we will be the ones caught up in our own trap.  From verse 11-14 John deals with our need to walk in such a way that reflects the truth from within us.  If we are honest there is a lot of hidden anger in us these days for many different reasons and yet we cannot allow that to destroy the call that we have in Christ to love.  First as a family calling them "Little Children" because they were all cover under the same forgiveness of Christ, and then as fathers of older Christians because they should have been aware from the beginning.  John also wrote to them as ones who had recently come to Christ and who were new in the faith, yet not brand new, for they had overcome much. They could still relate to the lives they had left behind and known of the trials that many people were still caught up in with sin.

John did something that we don't often hear today; it was a list of things they should avoid at all costs. 1 John 2:15-16  " Love not as the world neither do the things that are in the world.  If any man loves the world the love of the Father is not in Him. For all that is in this world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father, but of this world, and the world passes away, and the lust along with it, but he who does the will of the Father will abide forever."

The books of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John are scriptures that you should continue to read through. The longest book is only 5 chapters so it shouldn't take that long. John tells us what we should be aware of as far as looking for false prophets and teachers is concerned in these last days.  This study on sin is clear and yet some still say that we cannot sin if we are forgiven.  If we live in this world and are in this world we cannot avoid sin.  I do know what happens when we take for granted what a loved one does for us...there can be a division between us even though there is love there.  It is all in the right relationship that we have with the Father that counts.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
