THE WORD OF GOD IS LIVING AND ACTIVE WITHIN US

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

Hebrews 4:12-13 " For the word of God is living and active! sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thought and attitudes of the heart."

When I think of being active in life I can think of nothing more active than being with our grandchildren.  A classic pastime when they were younger has always been for grandma to sit in the beauty parlor while the girls surrounded her with make-up and doing her hair into all kinds of contortions!  In a way, it becomes a process of mentoring that imparts love and acceptance to each child.  This is not unlike the ways we mentor one another in Christ as we play with the tools that we will later on use to build others lives with.  We may be very slow in understanding the meaning of these tools until we get our hands dirty using them for a while.  We put too much eyeshadow on or get crazy with lipstick and everything we use seems to present as more a clown than it does as an attempt at creating beauty, but it is all a part of the learning process.

I remember when I was going to bible college the students would often discuss classes in public places because they wanted to get someone outside of the church involved in discussions and practice their sharing of faith.  Believe me, you've never had an experience like getting cornered by several Bible college students who are trying to be learned teachers of God's word without any real knowledge! As verse 13 tells us " Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."  In a huge way when we get together to share beliefs and ideas on God's word we are really uncovering much of the preconceived ideas in a doctrine that we may have grabbed hold of in life that needs to be corrected in order for us to grow properly in Christ.

Our lives are constantly growing and changing as we form our beliefs based upon the experiences we have with Christ, but these things that we are given to work with need to be used and handled by us as a child of God before we learn how to handle them properly.  Our faith in God's word is active within our lives.  It is something that must be handled often and used so that we can understand the weight and balance of it in our lives.  The word has been often spoken of as a sword used with our armor, but unless we learn how to use it as a tool of God's Spirit in our life we will not be effective in the world around us in helping others find Christ.  While there are many aspects of our faith that need activity and use in life to allow God to teach us their power and purpose none of them will ever develop into the kind of power that God wants to surge through us without practice.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
