MENTORING IS A COMMITMENT TO YOUR OWN WORD TO GOD
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
From the time when I was a very small child before my first school days, my mind has always been filled with the desire to say what I mean and to mean what I say. This has gotten me into the considerable hot water with others from time to time, and I have found myself with the unpleasant task of acting on the words I speak to people from time to time. It was a very bad combination when it came to my anger as a young man. Without the grace of God and a nearby teacher, I could have been a murderer in my first grade year because of someone teasing me. I found out then that this world will use what we feel may be an honest trait against us; like " Saying what you mean and meaning what you say"
I found out in life that the one thing that matters in this life is keeping the words that we speak to God because that is the only eternal relationship we will ever have. In order for me to ever be able to witness for God in my life, the one thing I have had to learn the most is to keep my word to Him. This becomes ever so much more important the closer you seek to be to Him because it is a trust issue between you and your Lord.
Like everyone else in life, I found that I could be distrustful in my words to other people without there being any consequences, and yet whenever I spoke to God the conversation was different. God doe does not listen to the words we use, but to the real intent of our heart in what we speak forth. We cannot lie to God no matter how good we may be at lying to others or even to ourselves. Usually, if God is saying yes to any gift of the Spirit that we may ask for He will first prepare us to receive that gift. That preparation time may take a while and we may need to change a few things in our lives before we are ready to deal with that blessing.
While the act of giving witness to what God has done for us may seem simple; it isn't always. The fact is that in order for us to witness to God at work within our lives we must change and grow almost constantly. I find that God is dealing with me almost every week on some varied subject of my life that I must either change or work on submitting to Him. It was Christ's own submission to the Father that lead Him to the Cross as our sacrifice for sin. Jesus was brutally honest as a man both to others and to the Father about His fears and desire for His own life, and yet when He gave His word to the Father it was in complete commitment. If we have been called by the Spirit to want to be a mentor or a special kind of witness to what He has done within us then make sure that you have something to show others except just your smiling face or a kind gesture. It is my prayer that you will be able to show to others a continuing and changing life that is growing deeper into God each week of your life because they will be watching you closely. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
