FINAL THOUGHTS (continued)
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
True Mentoring is a chance for us to grow as well. For those who truly seek after God sharing Him with another person on such an intimate level will always lead to personal growth for us as well. The teacher is always learning something new in the same old material as they teach the subject because they are involved in the use of what they teach on a much deeper level. In the case of God's word as we are exposed to smaller areas in it's meaning to us that we may have overlooked before. As we get involved in the actual living out of these principals of Christ in this life we will no doubt find connections to many other scriptures and principals that begin to make sense to us. As we see more of these and experience the Spirit at work within us we grow as well.
One of the main purposes of God calling us to Mentor anyone deals with His desire to draw us closer to Him. Among the many things that take place in our growth is the ability to see other people through God's eyes. When I did counseling for death and dying some years ago I learned that one of the main areas of concern for any persons life deals with Significance. Somehow we all need to know if our lives have made any difference in the world around us, or in the lives of the people we have known. One of the main jobs in our mentoring others is for encouragement for them to stay in the endurance race we all share.
When Paul was first converted it took a tremendous amount of mentoring on the part of those around him; and a good long time before he realized that the fire within him to lead others to Christ was something that he could be worthy of. Mark and Barnabus were both direct mentors to Paul during this time as they traveled with him for a time. Paul was able to grow up in his faith in Christ through the Mentoring of others like Mark and Barnabus because they helped to encourage him to grow stronger in his faith, In fact, it was the encouragement of men like this in Pauls life for a very long time that allowed him to ever be able to accept the call of Christ to the Gentiles.
Paul had felt very unworthy as well as not being trusted by the church in general for many years after his conversion at Damascus and without the right hand of fellowship given by the Apostles he may have never ventured to minister at all. We are all found to be unworthy in our own ways; it is the reason that I adopted the name Unworthy Servant as a pen name for my own ministry The fact remains that without the grace and the mercy of Christ not even one of us would be able to grow closer to Him or be able to be of any encouragement to one another. I pray that we can all remember that as we continue to seek out ways of ministry. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
