THE DOUBLE MINDED MAN
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
We have all heard the term "The Double Minded Man",but for a great number of us the term has always been used for someone else. We would never consider ourselves as a DOUBLE MINDED MAN because it gives the feeling that we are not really being truthful about what we say we believe.
In truth these people cannot really be happy with anything because of that constant battle that is waged within them about their loyalty. These people cannot be happy in the physical world because they are spiritually troubled by the haunting realization that there is more for them to do except to just exist, and they cannot achieve their goals in the Spiritual world because they have not committed themselves completely to God which requires them to die to self. The attempt we make to live in two different realities makes us flip flop back and forth where it is convenient. We end up not being truthful to anything that we really want in life , and very depressed because we cannot make progress and cannot understand why. We are actually living a lie to ourselves, others and to God like trying to live a double life with two wives and two families that are completely unaware of one another. It does not take long before we start to slip up and make the affair known to the others...and no one is pleased about something like that.
There are two areas that help in trying to deal with this double mindedness that we need to discuss:
1. Relevance.
2. Significance.
Most of us want things to have these two areas under some control in our lives and yet when we fail to adopt a continuous guideline for our life we cannot have either relevance or significance. We need to have the things we say relate to the life we live otherwise nothing is making any real sense. Our communication with those around us is off because people see one thing in our actions while we are saying we believe something completely different. Jesus spoke to us of bearing Spiritual fruit for the Kingdom of Heaven, and yet if we are speaking as though we love Jesus yet living as though we love this world it makes no sense; and very soon people who know us will determine that we are neither loyal to Jesus or truthful in the world. The whole process of transformation into a child of God is geared to make sense of this Relevance in our lives. If we are either in this world or we are a child of God at least people can still believe us in what we tell them. Actually the relevance we have to this world grows less everyday when we actually determine that we are going to follow Christ. The only reason that life here has any relevance at all to us is that we have to live this life in order to make that choice for God and a life with Him for all eternity.
We learn while we are in this life those things that become important to us. We are only a part of this physical place now because we still alive here. We are caught up in the hearing, feeling, touching, seeing, and tasting of life. All of our senses are caught up in this reality situation to where we have no choice but to follow the rules that are set for us to follow it through; but there also is a spiritual sense created within us that is all around us. God is giving us a choice to make about how much of this reality we are willing to buy into. His word tells us there is so much more that we can have , but only if we will believe what He tells us with all of our heart.
We are always searching for a reason for why we are here, and what our purpose is in life and yet when God tells us in no uncertain terms what that is our first response is to dismiss it. Since the beginning of time mankind has searched for his purpose with God. In our earliest relationship with God we were happy just to be in God's presence and to love and communicate with Him. When our open relationship with God was closed off by the lie that we believed by Satan, and our subsequent sin we began to loose significance in our own eyes with God. I don't believe we have ever gotten that deep need for significance back. The many gifts that God has been trying to restore in mankind since the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is geared toward showing us that significance once more, and just how very important we are as His creation. We are the element that is missing for us to have significance with God again. We must provide the one element that He cannot give us. It is honesty, trust, loyalty, respect, and commitment that we bring to the table which gives our relationship with the Father significance. The two elements within our existence as a creation are the physical and the Spiritual parts of us; which are at odds with one another constantly. They will not stop doing battle during our lifetime here; it is called spiritual warfare between ourselves and Satan. When we turn to God then we too become enemies of Satan. We will discuss that more later. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
