DIGGING IN YOUR OWN DIRT

 Greetings in Jesus:

There many people who have problems with dragging dirt around from place to place, and as they do very often we find other peoples houses getting quite dirty because of that.  I know of a young man who is going through a very hard time because he feels he cannot trust anyone else because of gossip.  He has even written off his own mother because of the sharing of information with others that he considered private.

This is not an unusual situation for people to find themselves in because we are all kind of predisposed to saying things to others unless we have ever dealt with similar things in our own life. For some people, the best of intentions can be turned around on them and exposing them to be thought of as noncaring gossips who simply cannot keep their mouths shut.  I can remember when I was a child digging in my sandbox for hours in a day.  As I would dig in the sand I could build roads and towns and make discoveries of things I may have buried or thought I had lost that became treasures to me to find.  The point is that in those times when I concentrated on my own little world of discovery I never got in trouble with anyone else.  I was always found enough to do with Just digging where I was.

In life, Jesus tells us to be sure and deal with our own problems first "Take the plank out of your own eye before you try to help your neighbor take the speck out of his eye"  These are hard teachings that are not at all geared toward political correctness as we have seen it displayed in America over the last ten to fifteen years, but it is real life.  The deeper that we dig into the thoughts and practices of our own life and compare those to the teachings of God's word the less we will tend to try to compare ourselves to those around us or to find fault with others.  The facts are quite simple in that God does not look at sin in the same ways we do.  I believe that God's interests are much more simply applied than anything that we can imagine.  God wants us to be closer to Him; that is His main goal through the power of His Spirit is to draw us closer to Him, and sometimes He will use things that do not seem right at first to accomplish that goal.  God is not tied to the same time frames that we have in this life.  The mistakes that we may make in life can be used as teaching tools for us to learn from, and as ways that we can actually grow closer to God through His mercy and grace.       While this may not be God's first choice, He still will use these mistakes to teach us lessons, and for some, that process becomes long and drawn out.

There are no easy or quick answers to this problem without stepping on our own toes about judging and or helping others.  Everything we do should be done in love, and even though it may be our opinion or the way we would do something we need to stop and think before we said something to someone about a perceived problem.  Never deal with an issue without a lot of prayers for God's Spiritual guidance first.

Looking at our lives in comparison to God's Spiritual laws of obedience is really the only way to dig in your life for treasures...you will never know what you might find there.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him..
