IS REPENTANCE NECESSARY FOR SALVATION?

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

There are several verses within the bible that say nothing about repentance in salvation; only belief.  People sight John 3:16 and several other verses throughout the word that calls for belief in Christ.

I believe many people have called upon God's name for salvation and yet have never repented of their sins.  They have an underlying agenda behind this act of disobedience and deceit that will benefit them just as much as asking for forgiveness without ever leaving the sin with God.  Can you imagine someone wanting to be saved, but at the same time not being sorry for what put them in that position in the first place?  It is unfortunate but there are many today who try not to admit to any guilt or sin at all.  You would think that God should be the one who is thankful that they would even come to church!

I think it is time to remember that there are no good Christians by themselves...and no I am not speaking about a flock of Christians either. What I refer to is the fact we have God within us that makes us good to God's eyes. It is His Spirit that lives inside of us that He sees, and as long as we stay in the center of His will all that God will see in us is perfection.

The only way that we can ever hope to do that is by repenting and asking for forgiveness...and meaning it.  The goodness or righteousness of anyone comes from the relationship they have with God 2 Corinthians 5:21 and Philippians 3:9. Without repentance our lives would be like the little boy to hit someone in th head with a bat...said "I'm sorry" then when they turned around he would hit them again, and say" I'm Sorry" I don't think we would turn our back on him a third time!  Repentance simply means turning away from the path we have been walking on in life...taking a different course of action, and a different attitude.  It is impossible to please God with a mind and a heart of sin.

We cannot love in the name of Jesus without loving Jesus as well.  Is repentance necessary?  YES! I believe it is before we can have any real participation with God's Holy Spirit in this world.  God cannot flow through clogged pipes.  Our will must first of all be given over to Him before He will show us His grace and mercy.  Everyday of my life is filled with repentance for those things I have have done that hurt my relationship with God my Father.  I find that since I have walked with God I no longer have the need to cling to this world...it is easy for me to simply let go of things.  Can you say the same thing today?  It all started for me through my own repentance, so if there is anything that you have against someone else now is a good time to get rid of it by going to your Lord and asking forgiveness...and then simply turn away from that feeling....repent.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.

THE UNWORTHY SERVANT
