SEEDS AN WEEDS
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
I am aware that I have written on this subject not long ago, but this is such an important topic it must be dealt with. The truth is that we do plant different seeds with those whom we have contact with every day. Not all of those seeds are good grain...some of them are straight out weeds! I think we need to be aware of the kinds of seeds we plant within people.
It might be a negative word spoken to someone who is looking for encouragement in some way from us, but instead they come away with a disappointment. There are some people who specialize in planting weeds, but just by being aware of what we respond to with others and how we respond can can change what is planted in others.
For new Christians it really gets hard to grow up in a Brier patch where they are constantly being choked out by the rules and regulations of tradition within various church bodies. Instead they need the freshness of love and understanding. They actually need someone to care enough to not only plant seeds but to stick with them long enough to see what is growing. People need a mentor in their life that they can refer to that helps them understand what consistency means in Christ. While this person does not have to have a great knowledge of scripture they must be sold out for Christ and willing to share their life with others. Mentoring is the slowest and the best way of teaching the truth about the Christian life because it allows people to be real with one another. It is another way of planting good seeds in those who need guidance, love and stability.
There are times for all kinds of care to be given in a persons life when they start their journey with Christ. Sometimes it is soil preparation...breaking things up and pounding down the rocks and the things within the character of someones life that is a hindrance to growing good seed. The idea of mentoring in this way is a life long responsibility not only to the individual, but to the seeds that you plant within them. Cultivating, watering, tending the soil are all a part of a very long process that glorifies God and strengthens the person who is being mentored. That process can begin two different ways; either by the mentor approaching some person who they may think needs help, or by the person who needs some advice and help in life by seeking it out in someone who they admire and trust in Christ to give advice and guidance. Either way it is God's way of bringing about a greater union between people of faith. This is a mindset that I have longed to see within the church for a long time now, and we are just now able to begin to bring this feeling and ministry to life at the Gathering. There is much more to be done in shaping the Bride of Christ. I pray that you will consider what I have said. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
