Looking at treasures
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
The idea of treasures can be different for most people. One man's garbage can be another man's treasure it is said. It all depends on what we allow to be at the center of our lives.
I can remember years ago having to do battle with what I would view as most important in my mind. The ideas of what is treasure to us in life also has a couple of levels of depth to it; one is what we hold in our mind as being valuable and the deeper and most important thing is what we hold within our heart as being the most important. Scripture tells us that our treasure is really where our heart is.
There are probably hours of sermons that can be written on the subject of treasures and how they effect us in life. Truthfully there are things that this world tells us that we need in society to maintain a position among men, and then there is another deeper level that we personally need to be fulfilled personally. We have kind of lost track of that second and deeper need within our lives by allowing ourselves to be dumbed down by the world around us. We have a choice in life to just accept the stupid things that go on around us like the blatant corruption of our government and public officials. We might even make our lives much safer if we began protecting ourselves from criminals. We may find treasures within one another when we stand together instead of apart. My point here is that there are treasures out there that mean so much more to us than we realize, but which will not mean anything until we no longer have them. Look at the treasure of the country we have and the freedom we share even though it may be embattled by people who want nothing more than to destroy it.
We also need to realize that along with that freedom is our rights to believe what we want and to voice our thoughts and ideas freely to one another. This treasure comes from our faith in God because it was that freedom that founded what we have today. Without those rights and treasures we will loose everything. It's time to bring our thoughts of what is a treasure in our lives closer to home by simply stripping away all of the fluff and stuff that has distracted us from seeing what is the most important things to us. We cannot rely on what this world tells us is important because as we said at the top of this message we don't all treasure the same things. There are still a few things that are rather universal to the human condition that we might think about. These things almost always deal in the intangible parts of life, and strangely enough they are available to each one of us in abundance. These things deal with having a calm spirit , peace of mind and a clear conscience.
We may think these things are worth nothing to us because there is no price tag that can be placed on them. Both the richest and the poorest among us battle with the same problems on the inside. The answers are always the same and yet we don't want to admit to it because it means we must humble ourselves to the fact that we are not self made; but we are created for a purpose. Interestingly enough every thing that we really need to begin to tap into these hidden treasures is found in a relationship with God. There isn't any of this "Rocket Science"...its very simple just like Jesus said it was in the beginning of His ministry; we just have to accept the fact the God is who He says He is. We must allow Him to re-create who we are on the inside to find those intangible things that bring peace and happiness to our lives. I want to hone in on some of what I just wrote to you about these things we really want, but don't seem to know how to find, so join me in the next blog. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
