LEAVEN- THE EMOTION OF LIFE
Greetings in Jesus:
This week we need to say a bit about Leaven as it is dealt with concerning the influence that people have on us. What we find that is a little leaven can affect a whole lump of bread. If we put that into plain words there are people who can come into a church and stir up the people by the emotional charge they bring, and the words that they use. This week I have been speaking quite a bit about words that we all use to communicate with.
The real leaven that is in the words we use is what connects to the things that we want so deeply to see happen in our hearts. We want to be moved to actually make changes within our lives, and on some level we fell that must happen first of all with an emotional change.
In truth there isn't that much that happens on a real emotional plane with Christians today, but it is due to the fact that we do not seek to connect with God long enough to be really convicted to make change in our lives. We love it when we can be emotionally pulled along with the words and the feelings that someone may give...but that kind of emotional charge is very shallow, and cannot withstand the seed that is planted to grow for a life time. That is why people who are caught up in that kind of thing constantly need that emotional charge in order to believe and sustain belief in Christ. It can be exciting for a time but it has no real substance to it. That is why we need to continue to build up the soil of our lives as we started to speak about a few weeks ago, and continue to add to that soil the things that will cause the soil to grow richer and deeper within us to grow that seed of faith.
Emotions become a kind of leaven that can enrich us, and make us more like the creator as well. We really shouldn't be afraid of emotions because we are created in the image of God and He has emotions that ours are patterned by. Feelings are very tempting things when they are allowed to govern our decisions and choices. Over life we find that most emotional decisions are responsible for many very poor outcomes. Emotions are used a lot by the enemy of God to distract us from what the real truth is. If we allow our lives to be governed by our emotions it becomes easy to be lead down a path we may have wanted to take...especially if we would have waited for all of the facts to be revealed.
This emotional leaven can cause us to make snap judgments on things based upon how something is presented to us. The enemy likes to do things that way and then cause us to make an emotional decision by not thinking things through. On the positive side of that if we allow God to be at the center of our emotions, and controlled by Christ we can drink in wonderful blessing from God. Our repentance and God's forgiveness are both centered in emotions...our sorrow over sin, and our ability to empathize with others who need comfort are also based upon emotions. There is a constant battle that is waged over the control of our emotions ( which is the leaven that leavens a whole lump), and the resulting decisions we make because of them. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
