OUR FEAR OF CHANGE

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

In many ways I begin this as a very personal edification to those of you who have searched for wisdom in Christ, and yet who have sought to control the kinds of wisdom that is used to grow spiritually.  I know that sounds confusing at first, but hopefully as I write to you it will become more clearly understood.

One of the most disturbing things that we go through in this life is change.  It effect how we operate in life whether we want to admit to it or not.  The thing with our Christian faith is that it is built upon a constant change within us from the beginning.  It becomes very irritating until we are willing to submit control of that change to God's hands.  The wisdom comes in as we have experiences in this life that allows us to see more than just one view of the conditions that life brings to a person.  If we are willing to learn then we have to also accept the experiences that become a teacher to us of how our minds and hearts are changed on any given subject when we have personally experienced it in life.

As an example we often do not understand why someone is left  stunned and numb by the heart of the loss of a relationship until we have experienced that same feeling for ourselves.  The loss of control, and personal dignity in the throws of a divorce can and does change life for people.  I can say without any doubt that in my life I had a completely unrealistic view of what happens to people until I experienced it in my life.  I can now look back on that loss and say without any doubt that for a time I lost my mind, and the actions taken to deal with it were neither Christian or sane, and that for quite some time I found myself in a very deep pit of despair.  In that process I lost all understanding of what it meant to walk with God for a time.  In that time of healing I had to regain my identity as a man, and then I had to put that man back into God's control. If we go through an experience many times our perspective changes concerning the opinions we have had of others and of situations others get caught up in.  There are many cases where we can o longer judge others in the same way we would have before we had that experience.

The old Indian saying " you cannot judge someone until you have walked a mile in their moccasins" still holds a great amount of truth for us as Christians.  In many ways I believe we are put into the situation of a physical body so that we can learn through these experiences about varied situations and relationships.  I think those among us who have never had these bad experiences happen to them have a very difficult time judging the mercy and grace needed to love someone in spite of sin.  There are times when the sin and the person get so entangled with one another that we can no longer separate the sin from the sinner.  When that happens we can not longer love as effectively as we need to in God's Spirit.

There is much that can be said about the fear of change that has to happen in us with having experiences to teach us about life. There is a constant under toe of current that causes things in life to shift under our feet so that we cannot stay in one place for very long...no matter how hard we may try.  That under current also brings freshness and life to us as much as it brings that constant change.  We cannot allow our lives to be come stagnate or unyielding to the movement of life and change. Like a current in the water God's Spirit pushes our lives for change and experiences so that we might grow.  Sometime those changes mean that we have to endure physical and emotional pain.  Sometimes it means loss or failure in life, but it always promotes our spiritual growth if we can view it with the right perspective.  This is how the soil of our lives is built as well; through these changes and through the experiences that form us into new creatures.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
