LEARNING TO LOVE IN THE SPIRIT

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

There is a way to love others that has nothing to do with a physical thing or even with a single person in the way we think of love.  The kind of love that I refer to is that of a Spiritual connection with and through God to those around us.  This kind of love is something that we cannot generate by ourselves and it is something that is almost impossible to cultivate within our own lives  This love is a God-centered love like the kind of love that was demonstrated by the life and the person of Jesus Christ for us through the complete submission to God's Holy Spirit as a living sacrifice.

We are also to be seeking to have that same kind of relationship with the Holy Spirit in our daily and even moment to moment lives.  While we cannot do that on our own any more than Jesus could as a man, we have been given the tools and example of how to go about developing it as a mindset and a goal to seek after.  I believe it starts with the ways we view the people around us.  One of the first things we must do is to stop looking at people by classifying them in various roles like that of gender or race, rich or poor, young or old and then begin to look at them spiritually.  We need to train our mind to begin to see the pain within a life and look for the reasons behind what someone does instead of reacting to what they do. A trick I have learned to us is to take the time to look into a person's eyes to see the truth of what they are saying.  It makes most people very nervous when I do that because we are not used to anyone caring enough to get to the truth about what is really going on in our lives.

For the most part, as I said earlier we need to take away all of the snap judgments we carry around with us about people and situations.  It is important that we strip away all of the snap judgments we make about looks or gender, race, and creed and deal with the soul behind the eyes of the person we speak with.  When we begin to see others in the same ways God sees them we will be able to love without bias.  God will then begin to show us what we need to see inside of the heart of people in the same way Jesus did, and then make a good discernment about their needs in Christ.  As in all things through the power of God's Spirit, we must release control of the conversation from that point and allow God to speak through us to them.  We can never learn to love deep enough to help someone in trouble, but God can through our reflection of His wisdom and light shed on the problem.  If we are to be one with the Father and with His Son, we must learn as Jesus did that as a man we can do nothing good.  We must release control to the Holy Spirit within us.

I have heard so many times the desire of people in the churches to feel the power again of the rushing mighty wind of God running through the church in the power of what they felt in the upper room in Jerusalem.  That power was the Holy Spirit and not the people themselves, it was the release of our will to be used as a tool by God that brought on that power.  The same is true for us today that in Christ we are one only when we surrender to Him as Jesus did.  It is my prayer that these thoughts have helped you to understand some of the basic principals that God uses in us to love others within the Spirit.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
