THE ART OF BEING A SPONGE OR A TEACHER

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

It is becoming more difficult to know what is most important to focus upon during a week.  God's Spirit has directed me to deal with how we are learning about God and His word as we  try to implement what we hear into actions taken during the week.  I believe in many cases right from the start of our relationship with Christ we hear a marked difference between what the church teaches us about  how to learn about the word and the principals of Christ and what God tells us in His word.

As an example I don't see too many churches today who are over jealous about prayer in the way Jesus Himself showed the disciples the importance of it.  In fact the more time I take in prayer in a day the closer to God I feel, and the more power I can feel of His Spirit working within me.  I don't take nearly the amount of time I could or should take in prayer myself; and so I am already feeling somewhat hypocritical in making that statement; but at the same time we need to first of all recognize these things before we can take the steps  we need to correct them.

I love to depict praying angels who are waiting for God because it reminds me of the necessity of real prayer time before the throne of God.  I want to take a few blogs this week to make us aware of what we should be learning and doing in Christ that we often do not do, and then ask you some questions that really only you can answer about some of the habits that you may have formed about learning about and doing God's will in your life.  I have had a lot of church experiences so I want to share some of these with you, and then ask if you have ever taken a chance or stepped out of a comfort zone  with any of this stuff?

1. I want to ask you if you have ever taken the time to help someone find an answer for their Christian walk?  The reason I am asking this now deals with the TITLE  of this blog " THE ART OF BEING A SPONGE OR A TEACHER".  Some teachers deal with only facts of a passage of scripture but often they cannot relate the information into a practical application for some one's life.

Many times these people are quick to run through a chapter of the word without getting any real useful information out to those in the class with them; and that is because it has become a matter of book knowledge, and not experiential and useful wisdom  for the believer.  I have seen this same thing done time and again with those who have been able to read something in a book and spit back the needed information to pass a test of that information, yet when it comes to applying it to a real life situation they don't have a clue as to how to use the knowledge they have.  In the military we soon learn ed the difference between a war exercise and the real thing only after we got into our first live fire situation where people around us were dying.  Paul used the words to some Christians " YOU HAVE NOT YET CONTENDED UNTO BLOOD" as a warning to  those who thought they knew what it was to stand for  Jesus until they were made to put up or shut up!  The person who is a fair weather Christ will usually deny Him before they have too pay a great cost personally.

2. Many of these people who want to be seen as Christians only at their convenience are also people who stay pretty close to the surface of any of the scriptures they deal with.  Most of it stays within the milk of the word or the very basic and very simple things that any child can understand, but when it comes to finding or dealing with any of life's very tough choices or experience they stay at a safe distance.  I want to deal with more of this in the next blog, but I want to ask you where you might fit in the things we have discussed today?  Have you ever been brave enough or trusting enough to take God's hand and step out of the boat to walk on the water?  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
