MEDITATION
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
In most of my time with God I have used some form of meditation technique to keep me focused upon what I was doing. It does not matter if it is prayer or just concentrating on a passage of scripture or waiting on God to touch my heart in some way to write or to say something. I have used types of meditation learn ed from the days when I was into martial arts heavily in the service, or when I needed some quieting of my anger related problems from life itself. I found that by taking and object that felt good in my hand ; like holding a smooth stone that was small and could obs orb the warmth of my hand by holding and rubbing that stone or what ever item I have in my hand I can kind of keep my concentration on my spiritual objective.
Anyone who has been around me for very long knows that I carry things like that with me. I have used a small wooden cross, or a stone, but actually anything that can feel good in your hand will do the trick as just a reminder of what you want to focus on, and then take the time to prepare yourself.
The first thing I do is to try to empty my mind of everything that I have allowed to crowd out my control of thought. It may take me some time before I can empty my heart and mind and so I start out by making contact with God through His Spirit within me. By going inside of myself I can mentally begin removing these thoughts by releasing each thing that comes to my mind to God's control until I feel there is nothing crowding around me when I close my eyes
Secondly I start to release all of what has been in my mind that has lead me to anger or any kind of temptation toward sin in any way. As I find these things within me I ask God to help me to release these into His hands. I found that at first I was still holding on to some of what I spoke to the Father about and so it always seemed to have a root where it could grow back. I found that if I let it go into God's hands and then mentally clipped the last remaining root as I did that God could then take away the problem, but not until I had gone through the process in my mind and heart of letting go completely so that He could deal with it.
Thirdly ; it wasn't until I get to that part of my meditation that I could actually start to speak with God, and listen to what He was trying to tell me. It is here that I try to unload all of my sin and inner held problems so that I had a clean heart toward the Father and then we could talak and communicate openly. This takes time to develop because we tend to play silly games with ourselves and with God in this process. We tend to try to make shortcuts into a state of mind and heart that is pleasing to God, but God is not like using a computer program. We cannot hack or cheat our way into His presence with our own wisdom. Once again I am only sharing with you what I do to enter into a state of mind where I can be with God in a real way; it may be very different for you.
.
How we deal with being in the presence of our Heavenly Father differs from person to person, but it is important that we each one feel comfortable in the presence of our Heavenly parent. Meditation can be a time of just hanging out with God by finding a time or place to meet with Him, and talk; but most importantly to listen for what He has to say back to you. Very often when I am meditating I will have the word with me at least in case He prompts me to a scripture verse for a more in-depth answer. God never fails to give me wisdom through these times of meditation. I pray that you will be able to begin to tap into some of these things for yourself. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
