PRETENDING

Greetings in Jesus:

People work  pretty hard in pretending to be something that they know they are not...I know that in my life as a younger man that was true of me as well.  The inside games that we play with who we really are becomes the person that many others see us to be , and that can at times be a very wrong impression.

There are those who are striving to become a certain thing in life, but who have not yet achieved what they have set out to do...that is usually because we are designed to want everything NOW instead of waiting for the real thing to come.  In some ways that can become very hypocritical in the eyes of others who may be able to see through the efforts of someone who strives to do better.  It is usually the amount of commitment put into a change within our lives that makes the difference.

I heard once that if you want to become something that you are not presently...then hang around those who are what you want to be.  Study them and imitate them as much as you can, but also make the necessary changes in your life that they have made to become who they are.  That seems to be the hard part because for many people it is too late to not have made the mistakes that disqualify them for what they see another person being.  What is interesting to me is the fact that no matter what we may have gone through in life if God has a purpose for us and we are called to fulfill it we will eventually be given the work and the position in His Spirit to do it...with or without the approval of other men.

What becomes so important to that transition into who God has called us to be is the spiritual fruit that we bare in Jesus consistently.  That spiritual fruit is due to the turning over of our lives to His direction and guidance, and it is nothing of our own desires or will. Complete dependence upon God to make the changes in us is often a problem for us because it is our responsibility to seek...it is God's promise that if we do seek we will find.

The effort to seek, and the spiritual fruit that is brought forth from our effort to seek out God's will is the combination that can finally cause us to stop pretending; and then to become that which God has created us to be.  It can make for a very rough and bumpy road for us until we completely submit to God's work within us.  That process could take a few years...or it could take a lifetime depending on how long we fight Him for the control of our lives.  Today do you still find yourself pretending in some ways to follow God without reservation?  Do you produce an image of who you are that does not always conform to the principals that you say you believe in?  If so then you may have been caught up in pretending as well.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
