PRAYING FOR OTHER CHRISTIANS
Greeting in Jesus:
Colossians 1:12-16 speaks about the need for us to pray for one another as we share our inheritance with all of the saints of the Kingdom of Light. There is a tremendous amount of activity involved in doing that which is covered throughout chapter 1 that we should look more closely at.
1. Being thankful for those in Christ around us; for their faith and their changed lives 1:3 is among the things that we tend to miss when praying for one another. It is that thankfulness that instills unity within the body of Christ and it allows us to be secure in reaching out to one another.
2. When we pray for someone we often forget as well that they will always need our help and strength to know God's will for their life 1:9 which supports them just as they should be praying in support of God's will for your life. We should be asking for more prayer from those within the fellowship we share for that very reason.
3. Verse 1:9 also indicates that we should be praying for a deeper Spiritual understanding in their walk with Christ. We are all to grow in the Spirit and we are to help each other to grow as well. This is actually a part of the challenge of mentoring, and becoming mentor to one another that the word speak of.
4. We need to always pray that we can live each day for Christ instead of for self 1:10. The only way that we can deny self and to take up that cross and follow is often through the help and love of someone else who has our back spiritually...do you have that; and are you that person for some one else?
5. In this 10th verse it also indicates that we ask for a greater knowledge of God for our fellow Christian's life. That does not mean only a greater understanding of scripture, but more importantly a greater knowledge of who God is to their life.
6.There are two more things covered in this chapter that we need to pray for with regard to one another in Christ. The first of them is endurance. The race that we run is dependent in a large degree to the help that we get from those around us as we run this race to finish the course that is set before us. The race itself is not about our winning over someone else, but it is that we have endured, we have helped someone else to endure as well. 1:11
7. The last but certainly not the least is that we would pray for Joy, Peace, Strength, and thankfulness to be a great part of them as they run along side of us...we all need that encouragement. I can't help but wonder how many more people could be touched by our lives if we allowed ourselves to pray for these things?
The matter of our Spiritual growth is no joke...for unless we find some kind of transformation within us we will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. It is time that we began to really help one another achieve that change within us. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
