BLINDSIDED BY SELF
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
I find that every once in a while I am forced to get up in the middle of the night because God's Spirit has something that He wants to say through me. Most of the time I don't even have a clue as to what it is...like this morning it is a Friday at 1:15 a.m. and my thoughts are running so strongly that I cannot sleep. When that happens I might as well just get up and say " Here I am Lord...use me"
We just had a great bible study this week on Romans 12:9-21 which has been leading toward a number of interesting areas about both our witness and our love to one another. These things are very tied in together even though we may not see it right away. Our love for one another is actually the witness that we should be giving to this world. The witness that we share should be that we show this world what Christ meant when He spoke to us about His Kingdom not being of this world, but in our hearts. I don't think but a very few Christians really get the idea that Jesus was trying to give us about the Kingdom of Heaven. We should not be running around trying to save this world...we should be spending our time loving those whom God has given us to love in the right ways. If we would simply get out of God's way He could draw people unto Himself simply through our example to one another.
We are so often blindsided by self that we don't see that the ministry we are trying to do for God is not ours at all...but it is His ministry that is done through us to those around us. That Key witness should be very easy for us to do since it is to focus on how well we treat one another in Christ. God's Spirit wants to draw people unto Himself through what other men and women see happening in our circles of influence. It really isn't that hard to understand if we try. It seems to me as though it is getting more difficult all of the time to keep self out of the picture when it comes to God's work being done through us. We look back at that passage of scripture in Romans 12:9-21 to see that Paul is telling us first the things that God wants us to do in love including how we are treating our very enemies who want to persecute and kill us, and then in 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 Paul explains how to love and what the truth is in the quality of the love God has created us to give to one another as that witness to this world.
In my mind there is not any doubt that if we could just open up and love one another in this way we would find many more people being drawn to what is going on around and through us because Christ's Spirit would be drawing them. If we would simply minister to those whom God sends our way by teaching, baptizing, and teaching there is no doubt in my mind we would be kept very busy. I don't know if you have thought much about the issue of getting yourself out of the way of God's work being done through you...but I certainly have lately. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
