OPENING UP THE CHRISTMAS BOX

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

The morning finally comes to open the presents! Within 15 minutes all that is left is the carnage of empty boxes and colorful paper as it is strung all over the floors in front of us.  The perceived treasures are no longer in the containers they came to us in and for the most part, the vessels have had their intended purpose for us and other than cleaning up the mess left by emptying our treasure from them there is no more use for the container.  That package that time had been carefully taken to prepare for this special day has now no more use but to be returned to a rubbish pile.

You know I have often wondered how God must feel about the obsession that most of us have about the wrapping that we come in as a gift to Him?  Just how important are the boxes and packages we come wrapped in?  What about the treasures that we have on the inside of us?  When I see a life that is spinning out of control over the physical things of this world I often think about what is the most important things to God about our life here?  Does it have to do with our outside beauty, or is it the treasure that we carry on the inside that is yet to be unwrapped by our Lord when He gets to open His gifts from us to Him?

When I look at an empty box now I see things much differently than I used to; perhaps it is because my body is wearing our from age and the disease of this world's sin heaped upon it over the many years I have been here.  We are told how our beauty will only last a short time because we are like a puff of smoke or a blade of grass that will flower for only a very short time and then be gone.  When I look at that empty box now I also see a promise fulfilled like that of the empty tome that Jesus left behind when He defeated death once and for all time.  I think of the treasure that waits inside each one of us that is far greater than the package that it comes in.  We cannot see it now, but one day when we are face to face with God we will know as we are known, and still, we won't be able to fathom the things that God has in store for those who love Him.

There are many today who have not even thought about such things as I speak of here because they have never realized the worth of what our package may hold inside.  No matter how well it is wrapped or unsightly to us it may seem to be.  God already knows the treasure we hold inside for Him.  He knows your value is greater than you can ever imagine. or than the world could ever set on your worth.  The next time you look upon an empty box during your Christmas celebration think about what was there inside and then think about the priceless treasure that God has unleashed for us through an empty tome..  Then bless God with all of your heart for your gift.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.

THE UNWORTHY SERVANT
