WHAT JESUS TAUGHT
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
We have been discussing for the last two weeks what Jesus has said in His first message to the public at His Sermon on the Mount... Now it is time for us to start to dig a little deeper in order to be able to relate what He said to what we are being taught today.
First of all Jesus came to teach us about the part that God's Holy Spirit plays in our everyday life. As of right now it has taken us only two thousand years to get to the point of understanding some of what is said enough to really do something positive about it (or so it seems).. For a very long time this subject has bothered me. The fact is that we have had God's word right in front of us all this time, but most people neglect to read it or take the time to follow the instructions in it.
I have spent a lot of time trying to explain some of these teachings to you, but I always feel as though I some how fall short of getting people to see the real difference between what Jesus was saying and what we are trying to teach in the various brands of Christ that we call denominations of today. Jesus began His message to us with the Beatitudes which has most people still so completely confused it isn't even funny! While the mind of mankind cannot get past the physical world around him Jesus is telling us from the start that our life is actually based upon our reaction and decisions made about our spiritual lives instead of what we deal with physically. If anything has ever been true about us it is true that we are all spiritually poor. Jesus simply is letting us know from the start that if we do follow Him we can be assured that the world will no longer count us as one of it's own. In fact the closer that we get to God the further the gap between us and this world will grow until we become an enemy to the natural and physical things that we have always embraced until then. In fact much of
what we have always considered to be straight forward in this life will some how become an unending road and journey for us that has no real clear cut winner or losers, but that becomes an endurance race that can only be own by finishing the course that is set out before us.
The one thing that we need to remember is that we cannot lose contact with our source of truth which is Jesus Christ as we travel this course. because if we do we will no longer have any idea of where we are going. While this road may look wide and easy to follow there will always be someone who is offering a better route and an easier way that does not take as much effort. While we may start out in a clear frame of mind there will be storms and conditions that cause us want to stop from continuing to press on.
There will always be someone who is determined to stand in our way or to block us from proceeding on, but those people are not doing that out of love or concern for you, but out of this worlds jealousy and hate for God and for you as a child of God. I want to take this slowly enough that we can ask question of ourselves and one another as we go through the differences we find in what our attitudes and desires are today as compared to what Jesus actually taught on the Sermon on the Mount message. One thing to start with is PRAYER...How do you feel about your prayer life? Do you ever really think much about it? Why did Jesus spend so much time praying to the Father? What does He want for us to see about prayer that we may not be understanding today? May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
