SINGLE AND EVIL EYES

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

I have made the statement before that almost everything that Jesus said in these parables are connected in some way.  Again here in Matthew 6: 22-24  Jesus connects the dots for us by taking two things and showing two reflections of the same subject.  The Moth, Rust, and Thieves parable took three things in this same to look at the things we tend to value, and showing how our value on things is most misplaced.

Most people are lead to something by what they see...or what they think they see.  In truth the eye can be easily tricked into seeing something that is not really there.  In this situation Jesus takes the idea of the eye to demonstrate purpose in our lives. Here He uses the single eye to demonstrate a singleness of purpose in life as compared to someone who has so much they want to do that they can never make a concentrated effort on just one thing.  When we get confused visually it is easier to get us off of that straight pathway that God has told us to have with a relationship with Him.  We don't have to be off by much to have a line over time go completely off course...simple geometric patterns show that clearly.

A good example of that kind of tricky thinking is to say that we can worship God by any name we choose because our intent is to worship God.  If someone was going to have a relationship with you... a close relationship, and they called you by the wrong name every time they saw you wouldn't you wonder what was up?  For some reason perfection means getting it right for everything except spiritual truth to people, and that is a shame.  In life generally if you were to ask someone how important it was to have a right perception on something important in this life they would agree that it is a top priority. When it comes to our view of our eternal relationship with God we get very sketchy.  That is because we don't see the truth clearly on our own.  Our relationship with God is what clears our vision to see what is important to God...and ultimately important to us.

With the idea of the Single eye and the Evil eye Jesus sets forth the contrast between how we see things when we use just a physical point of reference, and when we use a spiritual point of reference that is based upon His Spirit dwelling within us.  When we start to dig into how we are made up we find that there is a real difference  in the focal point for a life that is made up of collecting stuff, and someone who is concerned about sharing things with others.  When we care it becomes much easier to put life into perspective, but along with that is the clear view of what good and evil produces within us.  We are always capable of either of these things...therefore we must make a choice of some kine each day as to which we will pursue.  The Evil eye...or the bad influence of this world is always there trying to lure is away from that single intent for good in Jesus Christ.  I hope this makes some kind of sense to you as we continue to study the Parables of Jesus. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
