SALT AND LIGHT and their influence on others
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
We have talked about how both Salt and Light works, but perhaps we have not laid out the influence that it has on people all around us...mostly those people whom we never even knew were influenced by what salt and light has done in our lives.
In particular I think often about the younger generations, and who they grow into being because of that distant influence. There is always someone who is watching our lives...someone who is either influenced by our consistency or torn down and disappointed by our personal failure to stand for what we say we believe. There is a dual function in our Christian influence on others; namely their sanctification, and enlightenment about who God is to us and how He can change their personal lives. There are two things that I would like to bring out to you here...1. Salt works internally in the body it comes into contact with, 2. Light works externally to illuminate and guide so we can find our way.
I think it is interesting that Christian's are often referred to as the salt of the earth because of the masses of people they are mixed in with in the hope of preserving and influencing good within the world. Light is somewhat different in that to those who love to hide and do things in secret light becomes an enemy of sorts, and while everyone likes to be able to see clearly not many people are willing to be exposed for what is really in their life. God has had me running into people who seek the truth lately in a way that can only work when they see us expose the truth in our lives as well. The word being "Real" with people comes to mind as I think about this. God may well use our lives to speak the truth to others, and yet it becomes a process of healing not just for them but for us as well.
2 Corinthians 4:4-6 "The God of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus sake. For God who said:"Let there be light out of darkness" made His light shine in our hearts to give us light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" . We have to understand that our part in this process is to become a servant to those who need to be shown the light and feel the salt within their own lives. We become the tool that reflects back to others the truth that is found in us, and if when they look closely at our lives and see darkness or half truth the salt and the light that we have in us is diminished. I guess my question is; how much light are we willing to let run through our lives for people to see? The more light...the greater the exposure to anything that might be hidden within us. In a way the more we allow God to control the more He will dig to get that plank out of our own eye so we can help our brother with the speck we see in their eye. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
