SETTING OUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ:
It is a fact that this year is a year where we must begin to understand, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ in order to understand who we are as a nation and as a people. Paul wrote: 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 " For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension the sets itself up against the knowledge of God"
The very things that we are called on to do leads us into a direct contact with this world in a different kind of way...a way that we cannot escape from being uncomfortable with it in some way. Everything that we are continues to call us to action, but it is a kind of action that is completely different from what this world expects. In the case of our being both salt and light to the world the salt reacts to these world just like salt will to a wound. Any open wound will scream out around salt because all of the nerve ending are made active and alive. These makes the open wounds of a life unable to ignore the salt, and the light that we shine into the lives of this world is a light that exposes the hidden secrets of people and once again does not provide them any where to hide from it.
Actually that is the main problem the world has with Christians because every time the world even gets around a true child of God they begin to feel condemned. That is the Holy Spirit within us which continues to draw that person to the truth in their life just like the salt to an open wound. It is a very uncomfortable thing for most people who are trying to run away from making any decision about their relationship with God. As a follower of Christ it does not take any effort at all on our part to make that happen, it is just a natural separation between the Spiritual and the physical realms. It is what Jesus spoke of when He referred to what we could expect to see from this world in the Beatitudes Matthew 5:11-13.
Knowing this should allow us to realize that we can no longer be friends with this world because of the worlds hatred for God. Jesus said: " If they hate me they will hate you too" and there is literally no way that we can get around that truth. It is for that reason that we cannot come up with a compromise with this world when it come to a live and let live policy...this world will not let us live in peace within it. God has told us that sooner or later we will as a child of God come to the point where we must decide who it is we will follow God or mammon. If we follow God we then must begin to concentrate our minds and hearts on the things of God instead of on this world. That's when we must begin to seek after God with our whole mind and heart...begin to cling to our faith instead of this world.
This is a year of decision as far as I am concerned, and we need to motivate people to make a move toward God if we are going to turn our country around from the mess we have been given from this world. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
