DOING AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
The truth is simple, but this world always complicates things to the point of confusion...that is the way most cons work. My point is that when something is declared to be simple there is no point that it should begin to be complicated.
The simple truth of Jesus Christ our Lord has no place for brain fevers to happen over what we should seek after or do next in this life. Seek after God with our whole heart, mind and soul, and love one another as we love self is a pretty simple commandment that most children can follow unless they are also taught deceit. When I start to look more closely at Matthew 23:1-11 I see the behavior that Jesus condemned in basically creating laws for everyone else to follow except them. These laws made them look as though they were above reproach, and yet brought a condemnation upon all who they were supposed to be teaching. Today I see the same things happening with the various laws that have been written to basically separate Christians from fellowship with one another because of creeds or doctrinal differences. When I speak of the laws of God I am referring to the law and the commands of God alone and not the additions that men have made about God.
It is that simplicity that we are too often missing from our daily lives but which gives us the best possible direction to follow in finding peace with God and with one another. Jesus often referred to the simplicity of putting others first before ourselves as the best way toward achieving good unity in God's Spirit. The fact is that we cannot our give God no matter how hard we may try. We cannot out give Him in love, or talent , or mercy, and we are certainly not as loyal as God is to us. Our word given to God is the most important currency that we as humans have, and as far as God is concerned it is the least trustworthy of anything we possess. There are many people inside the church today who know the word of God, and who refuse to allow it to change their lives. That tells me that it is a heart matter. We can say we are Christians and that we believe in God but if we will not live by those standards of love , mercy, and forgiveness we have become hypocrites just like the Scribes and Pharisees of Jesus time.
I often wonder just how confusing it is for those outside of the church to hear and see the Christian in action...especially when it comes to how we treat and react from church to church. It does not take much of that before I too would be closed off to Christ if it were not for my personal knowledge of what is real. My suggestion to each of you is to continue to seek after God for yourselves, and not worry so much about the things that are going on around you. Most of what is going on becomes a kind of distraction to your seeking after God with your whole heart. I can go to any library and find five ways to approach the same simple things as praying, so there isn't any one answer...but what I do know is that God honors the effort to find the truth when a question comes up in this life.
Do not do as I say, but as God says, and follow His example for patterning your life...you will never be disappointed. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
