THE SILENCING OF THE LAMBS
As we study the word in our men's group I often find that about 3/4 of the men sit silent through most of the study. They are attentive and engaged as they listen, but most never say anything. As we continue to break down walls between people in general many times a comment will be made from time to time, but in general as a church we have allowed people to remain silent...not sharing their thoughts or asking questions that would help them to grow stronger and better in Christ.
In Acts 1: we find Jesus speaking to the disciples about what they should do next. He told them to not leave Jerusalem but to wait for the gift that Jesus had promised them of the Holy Spirit. I believe that we need to do the same things as men today. We start by breaking down all of the things this world has built up around us the separates us from one another, and as we do that God begins to work within us to mold us into men who the Holy Spirit can begin to work through.
Each person needs to work on his own level of understanding and gifts, and while these gifts may not seem equal in strength or power we need to simply follow the path that is laid out for us. You may ask yourself "How do we wait on the Holy Spirit?" The preparation is much more simple than we might think...it starts through us loving one another in the same way as He has loved us. The simple truth is that we begin to show one another the love of Christ among us. I don't think that most people understand that kind of love , and men in particular do not understand what it is to trust another man. We have been brought up in this world with a wall built between ourselves and others for protection. That wall has been our only defense from others hurting us or taking advantage of us. We have learned some hard lessons about self defense as a man in this world as we grew up...most of us in particular about affairs of the heart. I don't know that any one of the men I have known are willing to be completely open with another man because they fear showing any kind of weakness more than anything else. It is a part of the make up that we learn as men in the world. Remember that we need to break that wall down first between ourselves and others to allow God's Spirit to begin to work between us and others. That alone may take some time...so don't be pushing for the Holy Spirit to begin working in any super natural way until some of that initial worldly problem has been cleared away.
There is no doubt in my mind that each group of men or women can attain the work and the power of God's Spirit among them...but the world and it's habits cannot be a part of that. I want to continue to speak to you about the process of waiting on God's Spirit through out the next several blogs because it has a great deal to do with not just God's work among us as people , but in our own personal growth as well...may you richly bless God through your life in Him.
