KNOWING YOUR LIMITS

FOR SOME REASON  it is difficult for us to understand that God puts limits on each of us for a good reason.  When we are called on to make judgments on things there is a limit to our depth in making that judgment based upon the experiences we have had with Christ.  This includes the depth of our faith and trust in His word.  I say that because we treat a relationship in Christ like it is a commodity that gets used by men and women rather than a real and individual thing.

Paul deals with this individual relationship with Christ very well as he speaks about the judgment that we tend to pass on things and people around us in Romans 2:1-16.  In that scripture he speaks of the ways that we judge, but also the fact that God has a righteous judgment that is coming to all of us , and that God will choose to use the same judgment that we have used in judging others to judge us with, and therefore we will have no excuse at all when it happens to say that anything is unfair.

As men in particular we tend to be very stubborn in our limited views of things until we too go through and experience something first hand...and then the chances are that we will either soften our views and judgments on certain issues, drop ever speaking out on it again. ( The later is usually out of our own guilt).  The verses within the passage of scripture we are dealing with calls it stubbornness of an unrepentant heart.  It causes us to store up our anger about things.  A lot of the things that we tend to store up anger about deals within our own lives that has been left unresolved.  It is one thing for us to realize that we are always going to fall short...we are always going to sin; yet at the same time needing to be the guy who fixes things that are broken.  Many times it is within that we find the limit that God has put upon us.

It is within that limit we come to realize as well what it really means to have to depend upon help from God's Spirit. We know that everyone has sinned Romans 3:23, and we know that those wages of sin is death Romans 6:23.  We also know that Christ died for that sin by taking away it's power of death over us Romans 5:8, but many times we have real trouble with the idea of giving away all of the control of our lives to God in order to take away the limitations of reaching Him we have in this life as it states in Romans 10:8-10.  It is hard for us to realize that the last of these passages becomes the part that is not only the most difficult for us, but it is also the least spoken of when it comes to men really being taught how to be true Christian men.  For the most part men have been left out of the mix when it comes to real teaching in the church, but hopefully we can start to change that somewhat.  The ways we look at things in life is only one small area of being able to see things through Spiritual eyes...there is much more that we will be able to discover together over the next few months...may you richly bless God through your life in Him.
