REMAINING WATCHFUL
MATTHEW 24:36-51 is yet another passage of scripture where Jesus is very forceful in what He says to us..." No one will know the day or the hour...not even the angels in Heaven nor the Son of man , but only the Father". When I hear those words it tells me to quite trying to figure out what is going on and simply work on your relationship with God.
Jesus likens the second coming to the days like those of Noah...no one could have ever predicted that time of flood, and people were carrying on without any concern. Jesus takes His time and gives great detail to the very second that things will end. Once again the question will be left open to the pre-tribulation or post- tribulation questions of when will it all take place? This obviously one of those things that will not be answered. What really bothers me about all of these experts trying to predict the exact time and hour of Christ's return is that we can so easily get off track for the real purpose that God has for our worship and loyalty. By thinking that we can predict what and where we gain some kind of false control in our hearts...which is where self lies wait to sin.
In Acts 15: we just dealt with the idea that under God's new covenant with man...under the Plan of Salvation that was brought forth by Jesus life and death on the cross all men both Jew and Gentile were now equal in Christ. If that is true then Jesus did destroy the Old and bring in a New way of viewing God that could not be controlled or manipulated by men. The biggest decision that we have to make today is ( Who are we going to allow to be lord of our lives) who will we worship today? Jesus told us that even He does not know the day or the hour of His coming , but the Father is the one who does.
Frankly as I read the last part of this chapter I found myself somewhat embarrassed at the kinds of things I have lett myself get caught up with that have taken me off of the goal of building a relationship with God. Many times thinking that I was trying to dig deeper to find God I simply got rapped up in what seemed to be an endless amount of confusing facts that lead me from one question to another occupying my mind and energy trying to answer. We are not meant to know this information...if we were then God would have told us plainly and simply as He did through Christ teachings. Knowledge to men is a form of control...plain and simple. God wants us to be watchful in this hour because the enemy is at our door. There is still a great chance that many of us will be lost unless we remain unified and watchful. My dear ones do not be deceived in this hour of fear and collapse of all that we have ever known to be security. We must learn to turn to one another for the support and love that this world is desperately trying to stamp out. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
