THE ONE WHO DIPPED HIS HAND IN THE BOWL WITH ME
Greetings in Jesus:
This last Sunday I was privileged to take communion with my church family, and during that time I ran across the passage just before reading about Jesus words used for our communion time where He broke bread. Just before that happened is where Jesus also said that "The one who dipped his hand in the bowl with mine will betray me".
Matthew 26:23
So often we speak about once Jesus comes into our lives nothing can take us away from Him, but I know that sin can and does draw us away, but only if we let it. Normally we would think that anyone who has accepted Jesus as Lord would never walk away from Him, and yet Judas who was one the 12 chosen disciples. This tells me that while nothing can take us out of God's hand we can of our own desires crawl out of His hand on our own.
In today's efforts to stay in control and on top of our game in this world we too often rely on our own ability instead of including God's Spirit in our daily routine. When we are out there thinking , and doing on our own power the chances for our minds to be tempted by our self will, and desires becomes very dangerous. We have the opportunity to either stay in the arms of God or crawl out of His protection on our own. It is unfortunate that we many times would rather trust our own judgment than to rely upon the perfection that is Christ in our life. The ways that we think everyday of our life can be ruled easily by our emotions or by the circumstances all around us without our even realizing it. In the case of Judas I don't think he ever intended for what happened to take place, but he was angry at the way things were going because he wanted a physical kingdom that took the Romans out of power. Judas wanted a Messiah that would rule the world, and not a Kingdom that was not of this world. Judas; like many of us today want something to happen right now...we want God to take His big hand and wipe out all of the things that give us grief, and yet we want Him to do that without our having to be involved personally. The Kingdom of Heaven lives within us daily and yet we still have to look forward to His return for those who have been loyal to that Kingdom.
It is not nor has it ever been a situation where we just are along for the ride with Jesus doing it all for us. When we dip our hand in the bowl with Jesus we become a part of His plan of Salvation for us and for others. The Holy Spirit must change us first before He can use us to shine forth God's truth from our lives. Have you dipped your hand in the bowl with Jesus? May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
