CHARACTERISTICS OF A CHRISTIAN
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
We have always said that we should follow the example of Christ in each and every step of our lives yet we have a difficult time in understand which of these things the most important. We first must understand who Jesus really is; He is the Son of God Matthew 16:15-16. Jesus is God who became human John 1:1-2;14:20-28. Jesus is the Christ who is the Messiah Matthew 26:63-64.
We do not treat our relationship with Jesus as though He was God, but we have tried to treat our relationship with Him as a friendship, and an equal to us on almost every level of our lives and that is a big mistake. While Jesus came the first time to help sinners like us to find our way back to God; when He returns again it will not be for that purpose, but to judge the world. That judgment will include us if we are not careful in the way we treat this relationship. Our responsibility then is to treat others in the same way that Jesus treated others 1. Jesus came to help us to find God and we should be doing the same things Luke 5:32; Matthew 9:13 that means reaching out to those who have been in the muck and mire of this world in the same ways we have been before we came to know Jesus. We will not always have the experience or the ability to help someone who's experience does not line up with ours, but we can help those whom we have an understanding of what they are going through. We all have had various experiences that we can share in our lives with others...not with everyone, but we can with some people. Jesus has the power to forgive sin, and we have the power to forgive one another in the same way that Christ has forgiven us Mark 2:9-12; Luke 24:47. We have something to share with other people in that we have been given life with God because Jesus has the authority over death Mark 5:22-24; 35-42 and He has the power to give us that that eternal life with God through His sacrifice and Lordship over us John 10:28;17:2
Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, and taught the truth, and we can heal the sick and raise dead spirits...and most certainly teach the truth with the same authority as we have Christ's Spirit abiding ; within us Mark 1:21-22 Matthew 7:29. We are to be compassionate as is Jesus Mark 1: 41, and I believe if we follow Christ in the ways we are called to we will experience sorrow, and sacrifice Matthew 26: 38; John 11:35 Jesus never disobeyed God Matthew 3:15; John 8:46. I wish that we could all say that when it comes to our own obedience to God. We do have an example through Christ's life of what we can be if we seek Him with our whole heart. I wonder what we could do to change the world around us if we just would even try to follow Christ one day at a time. I give God the glory for being able to speak with you about this concern of mine today, and I pray that you would receive it in love, but we really need to get more involved with the truth of God in our lives my friends...we are running out of time. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
