FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
I have a dear friend who almost always brings up the reading of the Armor of God when reading scriptures. I understand his reasoning for it because he is constantly having to fight to stay close to our Father because of discontent in his home and war of various kinds against addictions. Most of all he needs protection against the onslaught of evil in this world. Billy Graham recently said that America has gotten worse than Sodom and Gomorrah ever was, and I think he is probably right. We don't see the truth nature of this country as a whole because we are often cut off from most of it by staying within our own small part of the world.
The fight that we fight is not the normal kind of thing we see with physical warfare that spills blood and maims physically; this kind of war fights against lies that too often sound like truth. Only believers who are listening to the Holy Spirit within them will be able to discern the lie from the truth. The kind of fight we are in is one where our hearts are attacked which is the seat of our emotions and our self worth, and trust in our own judgment. We put on the Belt of truth, and the Breast plate of righteousness to combat these things. The enemy wants for us to think that our efforts to tell anyone else about the Good News is useless and ineffective. The world wants for us to think that the size of the task is too much for anyone of us and the negative responses we are getting are too much to handle. Ephesians 6: 13-16 tells us that God along with our devotion and commitment are more than enough to get the job done. We shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel which readies us to take that word of truth to those whom God is sending our way.
When we see Satan's attacks in the form of insults and setbacks in our plans for standing for Christ these are simply temptations, but the shield of Faith held high can protect us from any fiery dart or arrow that is cast at us. Satan wants to make us doubt God, Jesus and our salvation, and that battle is almost sure to cause injuries and scars to our mind and heart. I can tell you that in all cases God can heal the wounds you may have from the battles you go through, but very often the scars will remain as a memory of what you have been through. That is why we need so desperately to keep our minds in the word of God, and put on the Helmet of salvation and keep the sword of the Spirit in our hands. The word of God is the only weapon that can and does rightly divide truth from the lies of this world. I encourage you today to to look to this form of defense as you do battle this week. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
