COUNTING THE COST FOR FOLLOWING CHRIST

Greetings in Jesus:

In the book of Matthew 10:1-42  we find the account of Jesus sending out His disciples with certain instructions, and with a great purpose in mind...that purpose was to prepare them for the persecution that was to come.  This event also tells us a lot about what we should be doing, and what we should be looking for in our own witness to this world as well.

Who will oppose us the most in this world?  I think we may be surprised at our opposition as we begin to take seriously our role in Christ.  In Matthew 10:18-21 we find the first ones to oppose us is GOVERNMENT.  Pressure , threats, are all a part of the real truth being revealed to those who hide in the dark.  As we have all grown to understand over the past few years the Government is one of the places currently hiding the most corrupt people in our nation right now.  Those people are certainly against the real truth being told or pushed forward for others to see.

Unfortunately another place where we will always meet a great amount of resistance is in the Church itself.  RELIGIOUS PEOPLE make up a very huge number within the Church community who have a white knuckle grip on traditions which do nothing more than separate us from one another through a fear and worry of becoming politically incorrect in the ways we preach and teach Christ.  In many ways these people have done more harm in actually reaching out to those who are in the greatest need of Christ because they don't want to get dirty in this world.  In fact I doubt if most them would even have accepted either Jesus or any of the disciples into one of their services for fear of what "others" might think.  It is interesting that Jesus said to us "I will only acknowledge you if you acknowledge me" Matthew 10:32.

The third and final are where we will meet the most resistance is within our own FAMILY. It is this are that is the most difficult for us to deal with and understand.  Jesus once acknowledged that a prophet can never do any great work in his own country; which I believe means we will never be accepted much by those whom have seen us grow up and believe they know us so well.  It is this rejection by our loved ones that hurts the most as Jesus describes it in Matthew 10:34-37.  We need to understand that God's love can and does sustain us through every trial with family, but we have to be both faithful and obedient.  Hold on to our relationship with Him as we go out into this world...may you richly bless God through your life in Him.
