MENTORING the truth about the energy it takes

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

Our brother in the Lord Paul was probably one of the greatest Mentors among the first church because of the disregard for himself among the people he was called to.  While Paul had several people that called him their mentor he really only chose a few people just as did Christ to concentrate upon in witnessing to and personal efforts to give and get his spiritual energy from.  Philippians 2:12 has Paul telling these people to continue to do things as though he were right there with them even though he is gone.  The tremendous need to keep one another spiritually charged never ends, and we always need that intensity to continue in our own absence among those whom we are called to mentor.  It becomes very important that we find these various people and personalities that can carry on our own desire to teach the word of God in the same ways we have been teaching and sharing with them.

The energy that we expend in getting people ready to teach others is tremendous, and we must turn to the same source as did Jesus to be filled each time we empty ourselves.  Teaching others in this way can be very draining, and so as we teach we need to also direct those whom we prepare to go to that same well of life and energy that we draw from to be refilled.  Jesus told His disciples that He had food to eat that they were never aware of...a source of strength that He could never get from His relationship with them; but only from His relationship through the Holy Spirit as a man with the Father in Heaven.

It is this relationship that we need to cultivate our disciples to have as well, and that starts through teaching them how to pray with a complete heart.  Quite frankly I am humbled by some of the real prayers that those whom God has given to me to mentor have prayed because they are so genuine and simple yet so powerful that God cannot be denied being glorified through them.  This becomes a kind of invention between you, God and the people whom God has brought to you, and the easiest way to discover the purpose for an invention is to ask the creator to explain it.  We desperately need God's input into the process of living out our mentoring styles, and it takes great effort to not drop someone after the initial contact made through the Spirit of God.  It takes a great amount of energy to mentor someone, but it is not done with your personal energy...it is done through the energy that flows through your from God to those He has sent to you.  In a real way you become a lightening rod for Christ to power both you and others through.  There are several places that the word of God brings this out.  Acts 1:8 "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be His witnesses...to the ends of the earth"  Romans 15:13 says" May the God of all hope fill you with all hope and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with the hope and the power of the Holy Spirit".

Ultimately that is our goal...to overflow lives with the power of God's Holy Spirit so that they become electrified.  Christ alone is the power that we are seeking, and my friends as we sow energy we will also reap energy.  Let me know what your thoughts are this week, and I pray for you everyday...may you richly bless God through your life in Him.
