MENTORING: the stubbornness of men

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

There are a tremendous number of equations in mentoring someone that comes into play; and one of the largest is the persons willingness to listen when God speaks through you.

I believe it is human nature to rebel in part against any authority put in our pathway.  The Jewish Nation rebelled against Moses leadership even after God had demonstrated that Moses was His chosen leader of the people through their delivery from bondage.  God did Himself try to lead the people He had chosen by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night and still that did not work because of stubbornness.  The answer to all of this is not our submission to men, but to God.

Even when we say we believe it becomes a very shallow faith that allows us to say "I will trust you until there is something I want".  That kind of faith is what Jesus encountered everywhere He turned in this life, and the only way that we can get past that natural tendency to rebel is to be obedient even when we don't want to.  I personally have to become obedient everyday of my life all over again because if I allowed myself to reason with this world even for a moment I could find a personal reason not to walk with God.

I thank God for the fact that now in my life I am no longer alive in the same sense that I always had been in this life.  I was able to die a few years back, and since that time Christ has been living and guiding my thoughts and my actions on a daily basis.  I no longer tend to do battle with myself over fleshly things anymore because I have simply died to the desire to.  The only thing that continues to hold me to this world its the work I have in God's Spirit to you who allow Him to speak to you through my life.  I am convinced that not everyone who is in Christ is called to that deeper place or walk with Him...and the reason I feel that way is because of the mentoring that I have done over the last few years, and the number of people who start to walk that deeper pathway, but who like the Jewish Nation cannot follow for very long without rebellion.  I don't know if that rebellion against God/or any authority is built into us as creatures...it may even be a part of our physical nature that we must overcome to find a relationship with God.  What I do know is that if any of us will have that deeper inspiration or understanding of God we must get past the rebellion stages of who we are.  When God said "it is appointed unto men once to die...then comes the judgment"  I am not so sure that He was talking about the physical death we associate with death.  It may well be the death to self and to the desires of this world that God spoke of.  It is something that is certainly worth thinking about...and praying about in our lives.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
