CHOICES 3 the bitter root
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
One of the many things that I am called to do among Christians all over this world is to cause them to think as they make choices in life. Any teacher or mentor in our lives should want to have you weigh things before making a decision.
As I look at Hebrews 12: 14-16 I find something that is very interesting about what we should do with the bitter root of hatred and mistrust among us. The fact is that scripture tells us to allow no bitter root to grow up and cause trouble among us, and yet the inaction's of the great majority of those who say they of Christ shows that we have become so apathetic toward sin and evil in general that we have allowed the corruption of men to control us.
Scripture tells us to let no one who is Godless or sexually immoral be in power over us, but to keep God at the forefront of our lives. When this scripture was written the people were very familiar with the cleansing ritual which was to prepare them for worship, and they knew that they had to be Holy or cleansed before they could enter into the Temple. I think we have forgotten about the process of preparing ourselves for worship today. It is very much the same as taking off your dirty and muddy shoes before walking on a clean fresh carpet, and the results of not preparing ourselves to worship God is very much the same result.
Psalm 24:3-4 tells us that Holiness is coupled with living in peace; it is living in a right relationship with God. A right relationship with God always leads to a right relationship with other believers. Now I know as well as anyone that we can always be at peace and love with the world around us , but through the influence of Christ we should strive for that kind of relationship. We are warned however to not allow that bitter root to continue to grow because the small root now will grow into a huge tree at some point. We have to make a choice now as to how long we will allow such things to continue unchecked within us. The bitter root refers to many side effects of simply doing nothing...like bitterness and decent ion, disappointment and anger. Only the complete control of the Holy Spirit over our lives can take away that bitter root. We have always looked for various disciplines in this life that will allow us to live more freely and purposefully. We cannot find such things in this physical world...we have to look for it in the spiritual realm of Christ. We desperately need God's mercy and His love to continue to find any love remaining here. The choices that we make about how we will to live has a great bearing on our success as a Christian in the future. I pray that you will join with me in asking for God to show us more of His wisdom and love this coming year...and allow us to choose wisely. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
