THE DIFFERENCE IN PRAYER

Greetings in the name of Jesus:

It has become rare for people to just talk together without an agenda or purpose for it, and it it is almost impossible to find anyone who just takes the time to be with God in their day.  The scripture found in Philippians 4:6-7 gives us a good example of what we should look on prayer as being when it comes to building our relationship with God is concerned.  It starts our with "Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything" which tells me to get rid of the ever present lists that we create to come to God with and just talk to Him.  It tells us to "Tell God what we need and to thank Him for what He has already done" which is something that we rarely take the time to do past a mutter as we go through what should be some quality time with Him.

I remember when I got into writing my thoughts down I found out that many of the questions that I was having trouble with seemed to get answered as I wrote.  That was simply because I was slowing down long enough to allow myself to think about it.  When we pray we cannot hope to accomplish anything much good unless we take the time to listen to God speak back to us through His various sources.  I rarely will pray now without having the word of God with me and hope to hear god leading me to a certain passage so that I can hear what He is trying to say to me.  My own heart is very often changed through prayer about different issues even as I pray instead of when I refuse to let God touch me and give me an answer.  Many times my heart must be changed to accept the answers that He does give me.

The great prayer differences are always in the ways we approach speaking with God.  It becomes our own hearts that determines how close to God our hearts are and how much we are willing to take His counsel.  Where a great majority of people still use a grocery list approach to speaking with God there isn't any real communication between the Father and the person praying.  There are some who have taken a deeper look at their relationship with God but still will come to Him basically telling Him what they need from Him without spending any time to get to know God or who He wants to be to them.

A loving and kind relationship with anyone is always the same...we need to be attentive to God is the same ways He is to us. We need to speak with Him and also listen to Him; and by that I mean that we need to be present when we are with God instead of looking at our clocks.  So very few of us really take the time to see God as a Father, and as someone who does love us.  We don't treat Him as though we love Him in return.  The next time that you go into prayer remember that your goal is not just to talk at God, but to talk with Him...spend time with Him and enjoy His company. There is so much more that we should be getting from speaking with our Heavenly Father than what we have been getting, and it isn't His fault...it is ours.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
