SETTING OUR MINDS ON CHRIST
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
Romans 8:5-8 deals with the single most important thing for the Christian to do in combating the distractions and temptation of this world, and that is to place our focus in this life upon God and the Good News message of Jesus Christ to us.
I see so many today who are so confused by what the world is doing and saying they loose all focus on the things they could have in Christ. We simply are not living each day according to what we are saying that we believe, and that makes me wonder what it is that we really believe in the first place? If we can say that we are convinced that Jesus is the Christ it only brings us closer to making a final decision about Christ...but that does not make us in Christ. I fear there are many people in the churches today who are a part of the the inner working of the church they are a part of and yet have never really received Christ for themselves completely. There are many people being deceived today because of the false acceptance of the church body. I say false acceptance because of so many people never really committing to Christ through a daily focus on Jesus. They do not live out the very Gospel they claim to believe in. Setting our mind on the Spirit means that when we awaken from our slumber the fist thing we do is make contact with the Father, and securing our relationship with Him before anything else happens. We can tell if we have done that by simply realizing the things that begin to pop into our heads. A mind that is controlled by God's Spirit will produce life and love, and the mind that is controlled by sin will bring death and negative emotions. For most of us we need to leave reminders around us at all times about that process that will bring us back to Christ and humble our lives before Him.
We so often find ourselves in a negative frame of mind because we do forget that singleness of purpose within our day is to love God and let Him love others through us. If we do not do that we will soon find our hearts will begin to turn hostile to God and the things of God. Strife , envy, arguments, and discontent with soon follow our day, and those of us who follow such things cannot please God. These simple thoughts are the things we will always say that we know already, and yet the things that we ignore doing.
Our lives are prone to go the easiest ways we can find to go without committing ourselves to be responsible for anything. One person said when ever they were confronted with having to make a choice for God they just wanted to be the grass...they wanted to simply lay low and out of the way while the war raged around them. We may be able to do that sometimes, but the odds will catch up to us sooner or later when we are the ones who are called out by this world. It is my prayer that we can find the strength to stand...not because we may get lucky, but because we have put into practice a daily commitment to Christ that has strengthen us so we can stand under temptation and difficulty. May you richly bless God through your life in Hi.
