A SEASON OF SHEDDING LIGHT

GREETINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS:

Nowhere can we find a greater example
of God giving light than through the Good News of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Having said that I want to take some time just before the Holidays kick into a fever pitch to look more closely at some of the things we automatically feel that we know all about in scripture that shine out to us through the Holy Spirit.  Matthew 5:3 starts us out with "Blessed are the poor in spirit for they shall see God".  How often it is that we look at that from a point of view that causes us to feel bad about those who are downtrodden and poor instead of realizing that Jesus is saying that we are the ones who are blessed only when we realize how poor in spirit we are because then we will seek after God, and if we seek we will always find Him.  We are never so blessed as when we begin to realize how much we need God because if our heart is true we will be led to seek after Him with our whole heart, mind, and strength.  In doing so we are the ones who will be blessed for realizing just how poor in His Spirit we have been.

It is then in our ability to see our condition and then come to God in repentance that we will begin to be able to see the natural light of truth that has always been there; but which until that time we have been blind to.  There are examples of God's truth all around us at all times if we will only open our spiritual eyes to see it.  A simple tree caught in the midst of the snow is a perfect example of God's life in the midst of a cold and dying world.  We like that tree have an opportunity to make a difference in the landscape of where we are planted too.  We don't have to be decorated with the things of this world to be beautiful, and we certainly don't need the help of this world to be nourished by God's Spirit.  We are blessed when we are shown the truth about our situation without God in life right now because we have the choice and the chance to correct that mistake.

As we begin this season of busy run-around and Hub-Bub of shopping for gifts and things that this world tells us we need to be happy let's also remember the reason we should be excited about this season, and what the concept of giving really is all about from God's viewpoint. If we do that then the chances are great that we will come away from this Christmas Season as a changed person on the inside and that dear one is what it is all about.  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
