THE RESULTS OF A FAST FOOD FAITH
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
There is very little that can be said about the fast food industry that does not immediately cause controversy between the pro and con views within our society about if it is a good or a bad thing. I think that there about as many views from those who look at the way we are feeding ourselves spiritually as well, and so today I wanted to touch on that subject.
The things we like so much about the fast food industry is the convenience it brings us into a hurried world when we don't want to be stuck with the task or the labor of making our own meals. The basic problem with it is that we are lazy and we don't want to do anything that we don't have to. This is a habit that we can very quickly become addicted to as we have seen happen in the American social landscape over the last 50 years. Like all other convenience, it isn't the fault of those who provide the food or services who are at fault for the habits we tend to fall into; it is our own fault. As I seek to find the heart of God in what the Spirit wants to say to us here I am made aware that it is many times the weaker among us who tend to fall victim to these habits first, and so much in the way Jesus spoke to those who were thought of as leaders in the Synagogues I am directed to speak to those who have influence over others with what I am going to say today.
The reason I am picking on the Fast Food industry is that although there is some nutrition in the food it has also been a proven fact that we don't get the same benefit from fast food as we would if we would take the time to prepare good recipes at home, and if we get into a habit of eating that way over an extended period of time our bodies will eventually pay a price for that behavior. In the same ways if we gloss over the things that cause us to grow spiritually as children of God we will eventually pay a price for that as well. There are two schools of thought in sharing the word of God that are at odds with one another today in the church. The first is a traditional approach to worship that tends to keep us centered in the old and tested ways in our approach to both music and preaching of God's word, and the other which is a more inclusive and seeker-sensitive approach to sharing the message of Christ that tends to draw people into the church by accepting a more open view of accepting people where they are; drawing them into a relationship with the church in hope that they are drawn closer to an understanding of the message of the Good News of Salvation.
While I want to say that there are some very good points from both of these concepts of worship I think we are missing the view that God has in what many of us do. It is hard for me to really be completely in either camp right now because I am seeing the effects on both those who are entrenched in one or the other camps of thought, and the loser is always those who need Christ the most but do not know how to find Him. It always comes back to those who are in the most need of being led in the best use of the tools to use that will help them the most. I think I want to take some time both in prayer and preparation with this in the coming editions of thoughts to you because this is a very important subject not only to how best to reach others for Christ but to help each of us to find personal growth as well. If any of you have thoughts that you would care to share with me on this please comment to me on this. I have a feeling that this might be a little bigger of an issue than first thought. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
