THE QUESTION OF TRUE WORSHIP
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
More often than not it is the connection we have with fellowship either directly with God or the fellowship that we have with those that are all around us in Christ that takes the biggest form of attack from God's enemy. Up until now for some reason, most of the Christian community has been ignoring that fact for almost 5 or 6 generations now; at least we have ignored it long enough for us to get very comfortable it simply staying away from any fellowship with one another because of doctrinal disagreements instead of trying to sit together and reason scripture out to find out the truth and to reconcile with one another in Christ.
It has been that simple and yet huge mistake on our part that has allowed the religious leaders of the established churches of the world to continue to separate us as children of God from one another which makes our ministry to the world around us suffer so greatly.
We have a common bond of our praise to one God and yet the styles of worship have been based on a personal preference that helps us to feel comfortable much more so than to actually worship the Father. When we think about the things that move us spiritually when we hear them it is based on what we have been brought up with or taught to respond to much more so than what we may feel in our heart at the time.
Praise and Worship are mostly two different things and yet today we have combined them to the point that no one really understands the difference. We certainly can praise and worship together, and largely do these at the same time because one leads directly to the other, and yet it is our preparation for either one that needs to be viewed more closely. Music gets our attention, and that is the whole purpose of having it. It is to make the announcement of something important is coming; it is to announce the word of God is about to be shared. It is good to praise; it is good to share good thoughts and words for what God has done for us together, and yet it is only the beginning of preparing our hearts for worship. The true worship of God is individual and is a humbling experience for us as we subject ourselves to the will and the word of God. It most often involves our individual prayer to God from our heart, and yet we have tended to lose contact with that aspect in most of our corporate worship services today. Perhaps it is time for us to take more time to develop the aspect of worship when we are together by concentrating on making an individual effort to worship. It takes some time for some people to get to the place where they can empty themselves of the worldly pressures around them and really feel God's presence. My question is "Shouldn't it be a part of our ministry as brothers and sisters in Christ to help others worship?"
What will it take for us to do that? I think that is as individual as the church personalities we have today, and there isn't any 1 good answer for it except that we need to consciously address the need to help one another connect with God when we are together. Each one of us needs to be aware that there may be someone standing right beside us in the service who is hurting or in some way in need of a caring and loving touch or word from us. The main point here is that we should be doing so much more as a church with and for one another, and yet we have gotten into the habit of just going through the motions of praise and worship that our hearts are very often never prepared to hear the word of God. I want to take some time to explore these thoughts on what God has intended for us in fellowship, praise and worship. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
