OUR PURPOSE IN FELLOWSHIP
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
The perspective that we have on our purpose in Christ has been under attack for a long time now and most of us don't even realize it. Most people do not even think twice about the service they attend on any given Sunday morning. Very little thought past the concept of " WAS IT A GOOD SERVICE OR A BAD ONE" even exists. Frankly, that mentality bothers me a lot when I think about the purpose of us being together in the first place.
It is time for us to begin to think with a little more focus on the purpose God has in us being together. Different phrases like " Teach baptize and teach" come to my mind when I think of the great commission from us as the church, which tells me that we are to teach people what they need to know in order for them to make a decision for themselves about Christ as their personal savior, and then baptize them into the fellowship of Christ and the church and then "TEACH" them how to stand for themselves in Christ. What I am saying here is that we as a child of God within the church should be ministering to one another all of the time we are gathered together. We have gotten way too relaxed in just allowing someone else do it for us.
We have a commission from Christ to minister to one another's needs through the power of the Holy Spirit within us that is not being met unless we can be actively involved in ministry in some way. That does not mean that we each take a turn at leading worship in some way, but it does mean that we should be actively involved in the support and process of ministry that is taking place. As I sit in a service many times God may call me to pray for a song as is being sung to touch the hearts of those who need to hear it...I mean really hear it in their hearts! I pray for the minister to be effective through the power of God's Spirit to get through to someone who needs that message while he speaks, or for someone who may be new to testimony to be filled with the courage to stand and give their witness in Christ, and that the truth of that witness may be felt by someone else who may need encouragement. I find myself many times being led to look around the room for someone who may need a personal touch from me, and look for a chance sometime during the morning we are together to say something to them.
We are brought together my dear ones for a very specific purpose as a family in Christ to support one another in this way, and to minister to one another as well as to those whom God's Holy Spirit has drawn to us. If we are not active in the ministry that is taking place we are missing our calling to teach or minister to someone who may well get nothing from any other activity apart from our contact with them in fellowship that day. We are brought together to do a job. We feed those who need spiritual food. We mentor through our daily lives those whom God's Spirit sends our way, and we help one another safely grow in the word of God. We all have a purpose in Jesus; we just need to actively find it and allow God to use us. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
