SO MUCH NOISE!
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
It feels like I am writing about the same things over and over again each week. It feels like a perpetual commercial for the glory of God, and in a way I guess that is true! It is through the foolishness of preaching; no matter what the format is that we spread the gospel " the good news of Christ" among the people we come into contact with every day.
There is so much noise out there today that in many cases that gospel would be drowned out unless the truth were constantly repeated by the few who are chosen to do so. I guess I am one of those who have been chosen to keep that message alive simply by saying the same things over and over again. The point is simple in that unless a message is repeated over a long time it quickly gets lost in the memory of the masses of people who hear it because they are listening to it through their physical senses and not through spiritual ears. Without the influence of God's Spirit in our lives, this message means nothing at all. This is one thing that Jesus knew from the very beginning of His mission to us on Earth; it is the message that is important, and not so much the man who brings it. We tend to get that all messed up when we think of who it was who brought us that message; how can Jesus not be important? When we think about the things that Jesus came to do the delivery of that message from the Father was only a part of His mission...the other part was to become our sacrifice for sin.
Jesus downplayed His role as a man in this process so that the message would be most important to us rather than trying to be like the physical man Jesus was. Although no pictures were ever taken or images made of Jesus our minds still seek to know what He looked like. Can you imagine what it would have been like if He had drawn any attention to His personal appearance? Once again the focus for Christ was the message and not the man. In a time in history when so much is made of looks, style and possessions we know what commercialization would have done to the image of Christ Jesus had there ever been anything to hold on to there, but God does not allow Himself to be mocked. This is the week we finish our final preparations for the biggest commercial events of the year. All of the noise and the distractions that can be made to take away from that message that Christ delivered to us will be put into play by this world. Santa Clause, elves, presents, parties, and all manner of distraction will come into play to try to keep our attention off of the message that Christ has delivered to us. In my own small way, I pray that
the message from God to us about His desire to give us a way past the sin, hatred, and manipulation of this world; and to find our way back to the arms of the Father will not be forgotten.
My dear friends, would you join with me this season to make sure that the message that was once delivered by Christ stays in the forefront of our lives? It is that message that preempts everything that this world can offer as a distraction to the truth. Let's keep our mind on the message rather than the man. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
