PROTECTING YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY
Greetings in the name of Jesus
There are many things today that we all need protection from in this life, but I think that most of you agree that the biggest danger today is a spiritual danger.
Ephesians 6:10-18 shows Paul making a statement about " Putting on the whole Armor of God" but we must also be aware that we are not doing battle in a conventional way; we are not fighting the kind of battle where we can see the enemy clearly; nor do we always even know who the real enemy is.
Satan fights against us with lies and deceit, and sometimes his lies sound so much like a truth that we become confused. While we know that God the only real truth we need to also know that this world has developed its own brand of truth. In that kind of truth, you will find many different escape holes. Thes escape hatches are there for someone to have wiggle room when they are caught in a lie. It is kind of like Clinton's now famous phrase " It all depends on what your meaning of IS...is" We are right to hold to the principals and to put on that armor of God each day but we also must take the time to assess the right set of armor for the right battle. David, when he met Goliath in battle, chose to not wear the heavy armor that Solomon had provided for him, but instead chose to be fleet of foot so he could move more quickly. There are many cases where we are trying to wear the wrong armor or protection for the wrong battles. It becomes like trying to play a football game with scuba gear on...it just does not work. It becomes the wrong tool for the wrong job.
Our strength and protection is not in ourselves but in the tools that the Father has provided for us. The first line of defense is spiritual, and we should pray that the Lord would send angels before us to help prepare the way for battle. It is OK for us to announce that we are coming to fight with sin in our lives...we should not have to be sneaky or use Gorilla tactics when dealing with sin. When it comes to those battles God's truth will always defeat Satin's lies.
Which of these tools do you need to do battle with today? The belt of Truth; (which I couldn't hold my pants up without) The breast plate of righteousness which is being in good standing with the Father. Footgear which is our readiness to spread the word of God, and His Good News, or the shield of Faith when everyone around us seems to be losing theirs? We should rely as well on the helmet of Salvation which is a free gift to those who truly love God and the sword which is the very word of God. We need to learn how to use these tools to our advantage and be wise in the Spirit as we do so. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
