SORTING OUT THE WISDOM OF MEN
Like it or not we tend to live daily by the wisdom of men...and while in many cases that wisdom does not get us into much trouble; when we start to mess ruling over God we get into some big trouble. That is usually not because God gets angry at us, but because of the size of the shoes we have to try to fill. I am sure if anything God gets a chuckle at the way we try to take charge until it gets to the point that we are hurting one another.
I often picture even the heads of various countries as being no more than like small children trying to walk in their parents shoes when it comes our trying to take God out of the picture so that we can rule...the simple truth is that it isn't ours to rule in the first place. It can be quite comical until you realize these people are dead serious about their desire to take anyone or anything out that stands in their way...then it's just sad.
It wasn't until I was in my forties that I realized just how poor the wisdom of men was, and that I could not depend on that kind of wisdom to answer most of the questions I had about my own life. This world of men has a mentality that places everyone in a nice neat label, package or box which makes it very easy use snap judgment. It becomes an easy to be right most of the time without having to think or dig for any answers, but that tends to leave us all open to having gaps our judgment. Unfortunately most people don't like the process of looking for and uncovering the truth...it makes us have to dig, and get dirty doing it. That process also makes it hard not to ignore the other things that get uncovered along the way that we may wish had simply stayed hidden. I can't help but think that it is that sort of thing that made it easy for the Scribes and Pharisees to turn into a blind leading the blind kind of mentality with their worship of God.
It is very easy for us to become hypocritical with the kind of wisdom we produce among ourselves because we never compare our wisdom with that of God; only against one another. When we compare ourselves against ourselves it becomes very much like grading our own school papers to see if our answers are right. When we get tired or rushed it is very easy to say " Awe that's good enough...it's a close enough answer" when in truth it probably is wrong...and we even known it. We also have the tendency toward cheating the tests. If we get away with a shortcut here and there it isn't long before we will continue to use that short cut as standard issue in any given situation that we can pass it off on especially if no one else catches it either. Mankind is lazy that way, and we like to make people think that we are smarter than we really are. In fact for the average man and woman shortcuts and cheating become real easy answers to competing with other people who have the intelligence to do it right. The unfortunate thing is that they are doing the same things with one another to keep ahead of the curve, and that creates some real problems down the line with a whole new set of issues...we forget the right way to do things. I have an idea that this is what is going on today in many different things in the world. When no one knows the right way it becomes easy to be corrupt either from being fooled ourselves or from a sinful attitude that just wants control. If we were as smart as God has made us to be we would continue to compare our wisdom to His. I have never known Him to be wrong yet. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
