THE ACTS OF THE FIRST CHURCH
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ:
For a great many people the study of something like this may be too church like or something that is old hat...we may think that we know all about the subject from the many years of going to church; but I want to tell you something that will surprise you. For the most part we don't really know anything much at all about the first church.
Years ago it was the study of this first church that set my heart on fire when I realized how much difference there was between what God had established through Christ and what was going on in today's church circles. It actually set me off on a battle against all of the traditions that we hold so close to us...I don't mean that traditions are bad necessarily, but there are part of man made doctrine that have divided us against one another in a terrible way. Over the next few blogs we are going to discuss some of those things as we look at the reality of what God wants from us.
The church is designed to be something that God's Spirit can use to draw people into Him. The book of Acts is a book that like no other book written in the New Testament. In fact the definition of Acts is to be a legal decision that can serve as an example for a later act. It can be redundant (or more than enough), and that is why it is so difficult for some to study...it can get pretty deep. You see this book has many different things going on within it at the same time. It has historical facts and details that have been used to prove the existence of things that the world said didn't happen. This book also has Apologetic things in it that prove the bible to be completely true and accurate. There are also many purely spiritual reasons for the study of it that lead us into the meditation and devotion of our lives to God, and to seek a true model for what the church should be like today.
I have found this book to be one of the most eye opening books I have ever read when it comes to understanding what my real purpose was in Christ. It is in this book that I discovered the difference between the Bride of Christ and the church we all have known over our lives. If you are willing to why don't you take the time to open up the Book of Acts 1:1-8 because that is where I will join you next time. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
