DEVOTION TO GOD what is it?
Greetings in the name of Christ:
I am getting excited about the possibility of sharing the information that God's Spirit has taught me about the first church with you over this coming year. Most of the real exciting parts of this will come in the first chapters of Acts as the church gets started and the power of the Holy Spirit shows up to spur the people on. Acts 2:42-47 is one of my favorite passages of scripture about that period of time in history. This tells us what they were doing and why they were doing it. It tells us what happened among them because of what they did, and it even tells us what the response to others were as they lived out their calling in Christ!
They devoted themselves...not many people will do that in this age because of self centering's in this life. We normally thing of people who are devoted to something as being brainwashed by it; but that was not the case. There is a real difference in being convinced of a truth, and in being brainwashed into a belief pattern of hate and destruction. These people were devoted to the teachings of Jesus Christ, to the fellowship of the saints, the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Those teachings and acts of kindness have always led to truth and love. The word tells us All believers were together and had everything in common.
What that really means is that because of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the fellowship; their remembrance of what God had done for them and their prayer and communications with God the Father, they found themselves in complete unity. They could love one another so completely without the idea of anyone else being first that they made sure there was no need. If they had any need those among them who had extra sold it and gave the money to the Apostles so that they could distribute it properly. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. What kind of social structure could that have looked like? There isn't any wonder that people were drawn to that kind of life because it automatically gives us a sense of security, love and compassion. Those who were involved with this life style knew the change that took place within their own lives...they knew the fellowship and love they felt from their fellow Christian's, but this world could not stand it.
You see my dear ones God does have an answer for all of us in finding peace on earth and good will toward men, but men will not listen. That is because someone always wants more than their share...they don't want to have to help another person so they are not in need. They want control of both people and God; but sinse they cannot have control of God they choose to hurt people. As we begin to look more closely at the real social structure that God has shown us in Acts let's keep in mind what deceit this world has been feeding us, and who it actually is that has been brainwashing us into the way of thought we have had. May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
