ARE WE REALLY OUR BROTHERS KEEPER?

Greetings in the name of Jesus

There is a passage of scripture in LUKE 11:5-13 that has Jesus asking a question to His disciples about asking, seeking, and knocking when it comes to our needs in Christ.  All of us have different images in our mind that allows us to feel comfort and security when we see them. This is a drawing I did of one of the houses I have owned through the years that still calms my heart when I see it.  This house also causes me great pain because of the losses I had there, but I found out that I could not have achieved the Spiritual growth I have needed to do what I do today without that experience.  For me it was pushing past the pain of what happened there and working toward the goals that I refused to give up on as well as not giving up on the things I felt that God wanted from my life that has continued to push me on.

Jesus spoke to these men from the standpoint of not giving up on their goals and upon the work that God had for their lives.  In several different scenarios God has told us to continue to ask for what we need in life; not for what we want, even though He will at times give us that just so we can learn the truth about what real life is all about.  There was a time when I thought I knew what I needed to do God's will only to find that I did not have a strong enough character to handle it.  I had to learn a lesson, and so I was granted money so that I could see that it was not the answer to life's happiness; it  was always God, but I had to learn that the hard way.  I went from owning this house out right to giving it away because of the deceit of this world.  At one point in my life I prayed hard to be given the money that I thought would be the answer to my problems only to find that the cost of having that gift would be the death of my wife and the loss of my home because I could not let go of a sinful nature.  I want to let you know that God will answer prayer if it is His will, but this world will also seemingly answer prayer if it will draw us further away from God, and we have to know which one is which.

Jesus asks these men  " which of you fathers if your son asks for a fish would give him a snake instead?"  We must change the character of who we are as men and women if we are to fit into God's Kingdom.  In a real sense we are our brothers keeper as far as sharing the truth with him is concerned, but we must also remember that we cannot share what we do not ourselves possess. If we are to ever be what God has created us to be ; which is a bright reflection of who God is shinning through us to this world, we cannot skip the line in allowing Him to make us who we are.  In many cases we may not want to help a situation that God brings to our door, and yet it may be that when we open that door we will find more help from Him than we are willing in that second to give to the person knocking.  Sometimes it does take a great deal of pain or discomfort before we can be prepared to receive the spiritual power we need to be the witness that He wants from us.  Today is another chance for you to ask, seek, and knock; what are you willing to do with it?  May you richly bless God through your life in Him.
