Reaping the benefits of breaking the law
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
This may seem like a strange topic to go hand-in-hand with that of repentance for this week, and yet unless we can understand the purpose of a law many of us will be running at break neck speed over the edge of a bottomless pit. God has proved to his love for us on the cross; when Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world I love you. We need desperately to begin to understand the consequences of our actions in this life.
Many years ago, a man jumped off a high bridge in an effort to end his life. Fortunately, he lived through the ordeal but broke his neck and back as a result of the fall, and ended up in a wheelchair. His attempt to take his life caused a great deal of distress, to those in control of the bridge, to the paramedics, to traffic, and especially to his family. Authorities wanted to press charges against him but they couldn't; since this was the city's first suicide attempt, they had no law forbidding such an act. He escaped the consequences of the wall of man, but suffered the painful consequences of breaking another law, the law of gravity. In the very same way we, because we came from Adam have all still send against God as a creation therefore, we suffer the consequences of breaking that unwritten moral law, "the soul that sins, it shall die" (Ezekiel 18:4)
Somehow we need to realize that no matter what we do or have ever done, or ever will do will not change that status. Death has rained as a key, with a Dominion from Adam all the way to Moses. None of these men were protectors from the tree of knowledge of good and evil as did Adam but they still send against God. In the book of Romans 5:6-9 it says"for when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commands his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him". It is pretty clear to me from that passage that we are still held accountable, and yet if we can understand the position that we are in as men and women to come to Jesus Christ, and truly repent of sin; Jesus has said we would be forgiven. Romans 5:12 "wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned." We have a real dilemma on her hands because we are just like the child who has an insatiable appetite for chocolate, but that chocolate is close his face to break out with ugly sores. He looks in the mirror he sees a site that makes him depressed. But instead of giving up his beloved chocolate, he consoles himself by stuffing more into his mouth. The source of his pleasure is actually the cause of his suffering. All over the face of the earth there is nothing but ugly sores of suffering. Everywhere we look we see unspeakable pain. But instead of believing God's explanation and asking him to forgive us and to change our appetite, we run deeper into sins sweet embrace. These are the temporary pleasures that we force-feed on, but God's grace cannot be faithfully preached to unbelievers until his law is preached and man's corrupt nature is exposed.
We have long preached about guns grace, and love, and yet for many of us we have not really touched the surface of what it means to reap the benefits of breaking God's law. We know all of the verses; for they tell us the truth and every turn "for the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." ( Romans 6:23 ) there is still so much to learn about the law of God. We don't realize that we live in a time that our complete miracles to men who lived 150 years ago. Today we fly and jumbo jets filled with people when the law of gravity made it impossible for even a feather to remain in the air. Yet we know that when a certain object moves at a particular speed, it moves out of the law of gravity and into a higher law, the law of aerodynamics, even though the law of gravity still remains. The world thinks the Christian is insane to live for Jesus Christ. But we know that even though there is no law of sin and death, we live in a higher law the law of the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
