Understanding the characteristics of worship
Greetings in the name of Jesus:
The worship that we see today in churches has sold little to do with the real power of the Holy Spirit in 1 John 2: 22-26 "who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is and take Christ, that denies the father and the son. Whosoever denies the sun, the same has not the father. But he that acknowledges the son has the father also. Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning. If that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you shall continue in the sun, and in the father. This is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life. These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you." This passage speaks about the person who leads us astray as being the supreme liar, the one who denies that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, and that he was both God and man.
Before we can really worship we must come to an understanding of the truth, and what that truth is, and what that truth means to us. Just in the way of reference I want to give you several Scriptures that you can read on your own that support this concept: 1 John 2:1; 1 John 3:2 ; 1 John 3:21 ; Mark 8:38 and 1 Thessalonians 2:19. What does this all mean to you concerning worship? It means that you cannot worship unless you are completely and totally convinced that God is who he said he is and that you are who he has told you that you are in his name. I don't believe that most people who call themselves Christians are convinced of that.
The first order of business then is to believe in complete truth, and not just in theory. We cannot worship in theory; we cannot worship with our heads, or our minds. Why? Because Satan can play with the physical parts of us. Our intellect and our knowledge are useless as a worship tool. What is there that is left untouched that we can use? What can we operate with our own will? It is our spirit. So I ask you a straightforward question what is worship to you?
Worship and praise are different things. Praise is saying something nice about someone, giving a good opinion of them, but we have been fooled into thinking that praise in song and worship are the same thing. Worship is the total commitment of one's life to the loyalty of a person or a thing. It is the same commitment as Paul made when he said the that he was persuaded that he was able to keep that which he had committed and to him against that day. A regeneration of your soul through the power of the Holy Spirit is what is needed in order to make that commitment. It is a time of drinking in the teachings of Christ's words for the purpose of spiritual growth.2 John 3:1-3 reads "behold, what manner of love the father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure." After the word "sons"should be inserted "and we are"because we are children born ones of God as in John 1:12 if we are to worship at all then let us worship as children of God, not as admirers or as followers of Jesus Christ. Who is there that is better as it teacher a worship than the Holy Spirit? 1 John 2:27 "but the anointing which you have received of him abides in you and you need not any man teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and this truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you you shall abide in him."
We know without a doubt that worship has become something completely different to the general Christian populace. In the book of 1 John 4:1-21 the general Christian populace does not understand that Satan does not play fair. Satan will use anything that he can to separate us from one another because he knows that if we ever stopped fighting and started worshiping he could never control the power of the Holy Spirit in this place. To me it's a shame that generally the power that we have in Christ is neither known or tapped into as Christians. I still have a few more blogs I would like to dedicate to the idea of what real worship is, and we will take some time to study that further this week. May you richly bless God through your life in him.
